Major League Baseball Announced 2026 Opening Night and Opening Day Matchups; Plus 2026 Schedules
Yes, we know things are heating up as the big final push towards the 2025 playoffs is now underway. However, if you would like to take a moment and break from the annual stress and see what your favorite team will be up to next season; well today is exactly what you have been waiting for. On Tuesday, Major League Baseball took time to announce the 2026 Opening Night and Opening Day matchups and baseball organizations also released their 2026 schedules.
Believe it or not, Opening Day is just 212 days away. Wild. We haven’t even crowned a champ for 2025; yet the 2026 season already feels imminent.
Nevertheless, the league revealed that Opening Night baseball would be returning. And the two teams that will take part in the festivities to kick off 2026, will be an east coast and west coast ball club. The New York Yankees versus the San Francisco Giants. This game will be broadcast on Wednesday evening, March 25; and all of the traditional Opening Day games will occur that Thursday on March 26.
What franchises will play host on Opening Night and Opening Day at home? Here’s a quick, simple list for reference. We’ve also included their opponents so that you will know who they will face as the season gets started:

- Baltimore Orioles (vs Twins)
- Toronto Blue Jays (vs A’s)
- Cincinnati Reds (vs Red Sox)

- Houston Astros (vs Angels)
- Philadelphia Phillies (vs Texans)
- St. Louis Cardinals (vs Rays)
- Milwaukee Brewers (vs White Sox)

- Miami Marlins (vs Rockies)
- Atlanta Braves (vs Royals)

The league also released a statement that revealed some interesting key facts about next season. The MLB states,
“The 2026 championship season will begin on Wednesday, March 25, followed by a 14-game Opening Day slate on Thursday, March 26 — the earliest scheduled traditional Opening Day in MLB history.
In honor of the 250th anniversary of American independence, the 96th annual All-Star Game will be held at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Tuesday, July 14. The All-Star festivities will be the first hosted by the Phillies since 1996 and the first to take place at Citizens Bank Park, which opened in 2004.
In keeping with recent history, clubs will host the same prime Interleague matchups as two seasons ago. [Additionally], the 2026 season will also have another “Rivalry Weekend” from May 15-17.
Although the A’s will spend the 2026 season at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, they will host back-to-back series at Las Vegas Ballpark, home of the Las Vegas Aviators, from June 8-10 (vs. the Brewers) and June 12-14 (vs. the Rockies).
All 30 teams will be in action on Jackie Robinson Day (April 15), Lou Gehrig Day (June 2) and Roberto Clemente Day (Sept. 15), with the Dodgers, Yankees and Pirates all at home for each respective occasion. The Yankees will also host the Mets from Sept. 11-13 to mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11.”
