This is excellent news for the purple and gold. Their veteran superstar, Lebron James, is staring down the path of retirement. However, while the King still has some left in the tank, the Lakers reloaded their organization with a franchise player that can bring the eyes and fans to the arena. And the numbers are looking real good.
The Lakers decided to drop a home gold and purple design this week with Luka’s name and number. He will play as #77. And this particular jersey retails for around $89.

Problem is, Fanatics couldn’t keep the gold jersey stocked. LA showed up and out, clicking add to cart with the quickness. Doncic’s merch literally just dropped and is GONE. Joe Pompliano of Yahoo! Sports confirms,
“Despite the relatively high price of $80, Fanatics has sold out of Lakers gold jerseys with Dončić’s name on the back. A few other variations are still in stock, like Lakers purple and some higher-priced authentic options, but there’s no telling if those will still be available next week.
[Interestingly] this historic trade could [also] impact collectors. The collectibles market had cooled on Dončić over the past few years after his 1/1 Panini National Treasures autographed Logoman card sold for a record $4.6 million in 2021. However, with Dončić moving to one of the NBA’s most popular franchises, the secondary market has found new life. Searches for Luka Dončićs name on eBay have increased 1,150% over the previous seven-day period, according to The Athletic, with Luka’s name being searched over 80 times per minute. And, while pristine copies of Dončić’s 2018 Panini Prizm Silver rookie card were selling for around $1,000 before the trade took place, collectors will now have to pay nearly $2,000 to get the same card just a few days later.”
As one can see, Doncic is poised to be a humongous star player for the Lakers. This acquisition has added and created plenty of excitement. Now, fans get to look forward to Luka’s first game. Which is slated for Monday, February 10th versus the Utah Jazz.
