Los Angeles Rams And Safety Quentin Lake Agreed To Three-Year $42 Million Extension
He is a team captain who has played in a pivotal defensive role for the team. In 2024, he played mainly in the slot putting up good numbers including 111 tackles, five passes defended and two sacks. So today the Los Angeles Rams and safety Quentin Lake agreed to a three-year $42 million contract extension. He was also having a great 2025 season until he was derailed by an elbow injury in Week 11 and landed on injured reserve. Prior to that Lake had 61 tackles, 10 passes defended, one interception and a sack while playing 100% of the defensive snaps that he was healthy for.
Adding a bit more context to the extension, ESPN Senior NFL Reporter Jeremy Fowler posted the following:
“The Rams and safety Quentin Lake have reached agreement on a three-year extension worth up to $42M with $25.7M guaranteed, per sources. Lake is a team captain who was set to hit free agency in March.”
But in spite of the elbow injury there is good news for Lake. Head coach Sean McVay said they intend to open Lake’s 21-day window today, Thursday January 1, 2026. The idea is for him to return to the field by the Wild Card round. That’s excellent for the four-year veteran who had 172 tackles since 2024 and was fifth amongst defensive backs. Now it looks as if he’ll have a chance to resume his 2025 activities.
Lake came to the Rams as a sixth-round draft pick in 2022 and quickly made himself invaluable to the team. He has become a star and team captain for the Rams during the course of his rookie contract. Overall, he’s played 50 NFL games, including 30 starts, and registered 235 tackles, 22 passes defended, one interception and four sacks in his career.

Now with his new contract extension, the Rams have Lake locked down through the 2028 season. Currently, the Rams are 11-5 and third in the NFC West and have clenched a playoff berth. If the playoffs started today they would be the sixth seed. However, the No. 5 seed is still in play in Week 18, the last week of the 2025 regular season. The Rams can still move up one spot in the playoff picture with a win against the Arizona Cardinals and a Seahawks win.
No doubt Lake is hoping to be there for the playoff game whether as the sixth or fifth seed. A Seahawks win means the Rams are playing for the No. 5 seed on Sunday. But if the Seahawks lose that locks the Rams into the No. 6 seed.
I’m glad to know that there are some meaningful games to be played this Sunday. But I’m very glad that the Rams chose to recognize the importance of Lake and agreed to the contract extension!
