Los Angeles Chargers Have Fired OC Greg Norman And OL Coach Mike Devlin
It was yet another quick exit from the playoffs for the other LA team. That changes needed to be made was clear after their disappointing loss to the New England Patriots last Sunday night. Head coach Jim Harbaugh was not brought in just to get to the playoffs. But to win championships. Therefore the Los Angeles Chargers have fired OC (Offensive Coordinator) Greg Norman and OL (Offensive Line) coach Mike Devlin.
As has been noted by others, Norman and Harbaugh have worked together every year in which Harbaugh has been an NFL head coach. So this separation will be a new kind of start for both of them. Norman has been a part of the offensive coaching staff of the Chargers for the past two years as the offensive play caller. Whereas it’s apparent that the offensive line needs help since they allowed quarterback Justin Herbert to be sacked 6 times in the playoff game against the Patriots.
When Harbaugh was asked after the Sunday night game about potential coaching changes, he said:
“Right now, I don’t have the answers,” Harbaugh said. “We’re going to look at that, and everything.
“We weren’t good enough as a team, and that’s what we do. We win as a team, we lose as a team, and that’s my responsibility to have that team in a better position,” Harbaugh continued.
“We’ll work hard. It will be a new beginning,” Harbaugh added.
Well now we know that coaching changes have indeed been made. And they were likely necessary in order for Harbaugh to stay in his position. Not that he was in any danger of being fired. But he knows his team will have to perform better in the playoffs.

The Chargers have their franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert. However, he still remains winless in the playoffs and some attribute this year’s playoff loss to the poor play of the offensive line. For instance, Milton Williams of the Patriots, plowed his way through two Chargers’ linemen to plant Herbert in the turf. Effectively sealing the 16-3 victory for New England.
When Harbaugh was brought in as the head coach in January 2024 he declared what kind of team they wanted to be:
“We’re going to earn our winning as a tough team, a resilient team, a relentless team, a physical team,” Harbaugh said in his introductory press conference. “That is what we’re going to aspire to be.”
Harbaugh will have to choose carefully when it comes to the new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Because fans won’t settle for another playoff appearance and loss.
