Los Angeles Chargers Defeated Detroit Lions in 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game
Football is BACK. After months of offseason drought since the electrifying Super Bowl LIX win by the Philadelphia Eagles. Fans finally got their first taste of NFL on Thursday. After 60 minutes a winner was clear, the Los Angeles Chargers defeated the Detroit Lions in the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.
This year’s Hall of Fame class includes: Antonio Gates, Eric Allen, Jared Allen, and Sterling Sharpe. All attended Thursday’s game. Enjoying the festivities associated with their soon-to-be enshrinement.
The first NFL Hall of Fame Game was played on August 11, 1962. It was held to commemorate the groundbreaking of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. And the event was utilized as a fundraiser for the NFL HOF. A year later, the Hall of Fame museum officially opened to the public on September 7, 1963.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame is located in Canton, Ohio, for a few primary reasons. The principal and foremost reason being that the American Professional Football Association; later renamed the National Football League, was founded in Canton on Sept.17, 1920.
Since the 60’s this fun, Hall of Fame Game is an annual preseason exhibition matchup that takes place during the week of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement. The two teams that play in the Hall of Fame Game are selections by the league and often feature teams associated with those being inducted that year. It is also the first game of the NFL Preseason.

During the exhibition game Los Angeles quickly gained control and never relinquished it. A very lopsided game, but still full of much action. Plenty of touchdowns, picks, great catches, hard running and field goals to behold.
Nevertheless, the Lions made a lot of costly mistakes and turnovers (5). And the Chargers made the Lions pay for every one of them. For instance, there was a fumble recovery during the opening kickoff recovered by Los Angeles. QB Trey Lance would soon connect with Will Dissly to open up the scoring. From there, the Bolts would just continue to pile it on.
By the conclusion of the first quarter, the Chargers were up 14-0. In the second quarter the Lions would finally get on the board thanks to a Craig Reynolds 3 yard TD run. And that’s the only scoring Detroit would do. LA would win it 34-7.
While the Chargers did look good, have to keep in mind that the Lions didn’t play any of their main defensive guys. But it was still a thrill to finally infuse some NFL back into the ol’ sports veins. And we’re looking forward to an amazing season.
