Los Angeles Angels Dismiss Phil Nevin- His Statement to Halos Fans
The Los Angeles Angels dismiss Phil Nevin; after deciding to decline his option for the 2024 season. Currently, several teams throughout Major League Baseball seem to be in full shake up mode. In a matter of days there have been a plethora of dismissals and firings of team managers.
For instance, the Giants’ Gabe Kapler and New York Mets Buck Showalter will not be returning to their respective teams or positions next season. Even speculation in regards to Padres’ manager, Bob Melvin, loomed for a moment or two. Nevertheless, for such teams as San Francisco and the Mets; they feel that these tough, yet necessary decisions will allow them to be more competitive and successful in 2024.
The Angels are now going this route as well. Despite a pretty decent start in 2023, the Angels could not maintain winning. Due to several unfortunate injuries (Drury, Trout, Ohtani, etc) plaguing the team throughout the year.
For them, 2023 ends in disappointment. Such dissatisfaction is how we get to Phil Nevin and the Angels parting ways. Another era completes.

Nevertheless, Nevin has a few things he would like to convey to ownership, staff and of course, the awesome Angels fans. He states,
I want to take time to thank Perry and the Moreno family for giving me the opportunity to manage my hometown team. Growing up just down the road from Angel Stadium and being here through my days at Cal State Fullerton. I’ve said it many times, it was a dream job for me and that will never change.
It pains me that we did not get this done for this city and our great fans. [However] I am incredibly proud of the dedication, effort and cohesion of everyone who was part of my staff. [Also] everyone involved in the daily operations of the team.
I know I leave with this being a better place and a bright future with many great young players. I will miss the daily work together but our relationships will last a lifetime. This will always be my home and I will always root for the Angels.

What About the Future?
With this dismissal of the Angels’ manager complete; what is next? Well, the future of the Halos is a little shaky. The team’s biggest star, Shohei Ohtani, is about to become a free agent.
Will Ohtani decide to stay? Or will Shohei shop for a different team in which he feels is in a better position to win? This is the current situation and dilemma the Angels are now facing.
Also, fans continue to be unhappy with ownership. Not too long ago Arte Moreno decided to sell the team, and then kept it. Moreover, with the threat of Ohtani possibly leaving; more fans are likely to become upset.
Therefore, will the Angels’ ownership finally change hands; despite insistence that they will remain onboard in 2024 and will do what it takes to win? The next several months and winter meetings shall be extremely interesting.
