Lions Outscored The 49ers In Comeback Win Monday Night
It was an offensive scoring bonanza as neither defense had much luck stopping the offenses. Brock Purdy and Jared Goff marched their teams up and down the field like ping pong balls. However, as the game headed toward it’s conclusion there was a shift in momentum. Until finally the Detroit Lions outscored the San Francisco 49ers in a comeback win on Monday Night Football. But it was a very entertaining game as the two teams traded offensive punches.
The 49ers got the scoring started early with a touchdown on the opening drive a 3-yard pass caught by Ricky Pearsall. He had himself a night with 8 receptions, 141 yards and the touchdown. Detroit immediately responded with a touchdown drive, but the Lions had their extra point blocked. It was rinse and repeat as each team scored another touchdown. However, Jared Goff hit wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown with a quick pass. As St. Brown was going to the ground, he flipped it to Jameson Williams, who streaked down the sideline for the score. And the Lions extra point was good this time.
San Francisco proceeded to score their third touchdown of the game. As usual Lions head coach Dan Campbell gambled and went for it on 4th & 3 at SF 8. They turned the ball over on downs and then the 49ers drive stalled and they tried to kick a 51-yard field goal and missed. The 49ers were up 13-21 at the half. The Lions started the third quarter with a touchdown drive that ended with Sam LaPorta catching a 6-yard pass from Goff. And of course the 49ers responded with an 8 play, 84 yard drive in which Deebo Samuel caught a 5-yard touchdown pass. But things started to fall apart for the 49ers after that.

The Lions kicked a 57-yard field goal whereas Brock Purdy threw his first interception of the night. Prior to that both quarterbacks had only a few incomplete passes between them. Detroit proceeded to turn that interception into a touchdown, a 4-yard pass caught by St. Brown. The 49ers troubles continued with a missed 58 yard field goal. Kicker Jake Moody missed two field goals and one extra point on the night. After the Lions kicked a 42 yard field goal, Purdy threw his second interception of the night. Detroit capitalized off the turnover with yet another touchdown.
Purdy suffered an elbow injury in the fourth quarter. Joshua Dobbs came in and led the team on a 13 play, 72 yard drive. Dobbs ran the ball into the end zone for the 7-yard touchdown. But Detroit won the game 40-34. They will face the red hot Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.
