Lebron James Says No to 2028 Olympics and Steph Curry Says ‘Never Say Never’
Team USA at the Paris Olympics was an iconic moment in basketball history. You have KD, Lebron AND Steph all on one team. And together they form an Avengers level squadron that takes on all opposition and wins in epic fashion. Who can forget Steph’s three’s in the gold medal round while being double teamed? But the question is… will we get to see a repeat of this fantastic roster and performance in LA? Well, Lebron James says no to the 2028 Olympics and Steph Curry says ‘never say never.’
So that is a definite no for James and kinda gives us a maybe for number 30. Steph isn’t completely closing the door. But with the Summer Games still being two years away; it is understandable that for him that’s still a lot of time in order to make a firm commitment and decision.
But if anyone COULD be a 39-year-old threat versus the world it’s Steph. Heck, Curry is still making jaws drop now at 37. Just days ago the Warriors superstar returned after fighting the flu for six days and put up not one, but two 40+ games against Wemby and the Spurs. Ironically, giving many flashbacks to Steph’s domination over Wemby and the French team in 2024. And simultaneously making history by tying the legendary Michael Jordan for most 40-point games after turning 30 years old.
Furthermore, Curry has now stated repeatedly that he is not ready to retire. He says he has “no clue” when he will retire and does not want to put a specific timeline on it. He is taking things year-by-year, or “two years at a time.”
But what specifically did James and Curry say about the Olympics? During a Mind the Game Podcast segment when asked about appearing as an athlete in LA28 James emphatically states, “You already know my answer. Don’t even ask. I will be watching from Cabo.” The man has earned his rest, giving Team USA plenty over the years. This means Lebron will retire with four Olympic medals: He won gold in 2008 (Beijing), 2012 (London), and 2024 (Paris), and a bronze in 2004 (Athens).

Steph’s response is a little different. Slightly leaves a door cracked; but not much. A sliver if you will. Curry responds, “it is the opposite answer of what I told [Lebron] last year. It was like, God willing I still have the choice. And like the physical option to be like… I could actually impact the team. Never say never, but I highly doubt it. I highly doubt it. Love to be a part of the movement.” Lebron adds, “How are we going to top those last two games?”
No lies told. Team USA’s men’s basketball team in Paris was pure cinema. Watching all the action unfold live was a gift. Therefore, it sounds like this pair wants to go out on top. Go out with a performance for the ages. Like the greats that they truly are; and we’re not mad even little. We’re just thankful to have been spectators of it all.
