LeBron James Passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for Most Total Wins in NBA History
Athletically, LeBron James is demonstrating something we don’t see much. Efficient longevity. It’s not only that he’s been playing for over two decades; it’s the fact that he can still help his team win. And now all of his victories throughout his hall of fame level career is solidifying his greatness. LeBron James has passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1,228) for the most TOTAL WINS (regular season + playoffs) in NBA history.
The top three players for most total wins (regular season + playoffs) in NBA history now looks like this:
1. LeBron James (1,229)
2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1,228)
3. Tim Duncan (1,158)
Furthermore, LeBron James now has the NBA all-time records in:
Most career wins
Games played
Points scored (all-time)
Points scored (playoffs)
All-NBA selections
Career playoff wins
Consecutive 10-point games
LeBron is truly one of the best to ever step on a court and his team is playing some of their best ball as well. The Lakers close out the month of March with a 15-2 record with a 127-113 win over the Cavs. Luka Doncic put up 42 pts and 12 ast for his 3rd straight 40-point game. Reaves 19 pts, 6 reb; Ayton 18 pts, 9 reb and LeBron 14 pts, 6 ast and 5 reb.
Interestingly, it was just a historic night overall for the purple and gold. Several players made a statement on the court. As ESPN’s Dave McMenamin summed things up,
“A historic night in the making for the Lakers. Rui Hachimura reached 5,000 career points; Luka Doncic reached 15,000 career points; and if LAL holds on to beat the Cavs, it will be the 1,229th win of LeBron James’ career, passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most wins all-time.
One more worth mentioning: The Lakers clinched a playoff spot, while JJ Redick earned his 100th career win.”
LeBron James Passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for Most Total Wins in NBA History
In regards to the Los Angeles Lakers head coach, this means JJ Redick has now achieved back to back 50 win seasons. But JJ kept it humble after being asked to comment on this accomplishment. Redick just said, “Don’t deserve to be mentioned along with Phil or Pat or any of those guys. I’ve got a lot left to accomplish for sure.”
Yes, 50 wins is great for the Lakeshow. However, JJ, LeBron, and Luka understand well that the job is not finished. The 2026 SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament will take place April 14-17. The first round of the 2026 NBA playoffs will start April 18. The Lakers will have a chance to compete for glory in the postseason. As of right now, as the No.3 seed the Lakers would most likely play the 6th-place Houston Rockets. However, final matchups will be confirmed after the regular season concludes.
