Lebron James is Officially Oldest Player in the NBA- The Legend Grows

If you use a time machine and go back 20 years ago to 2003; you will come across a legendary draftee. The Cavaliers go all in and use the number one pick to draft THE Lebron James. Some four championships later and James is an in-house and global renowned name; and now has one more incredible notch to add to his legacy. After outlasting literally all of his competition, Lebron James is officially oldest player in the NBA.

Insert the “can’t believe this is my life meme.” Literally, this moment is almost tough to even completely comprehend or fathom. First of all, where the heck did the time go so fast? Also, every single guy, almost every single opponent who had it out for Lebron is currently retired and out the game. Just about no one from the prime, or original Bron era is still balling.

Nevertheless, how did this happen today? How is Lebron James currently now the oldest player in the NBA? Well, simple… the Warriors Andre Tyler Iguodala (the previous oldest/ Andre is a January 1984 baby; whereas James was born in December of 84’) decides to head on into retirement. Iguodala got his start with the Philadelphia 76ers when he was drafted 9th overall in 2004. This contemporary of Lebron would go on to win four NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors, Olympic gold in 2012; and be named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in 2015.

Two decades. Twenty years. And now also the NBA All-Time Scorer. When Lebron James does decide to call it quits, he will leave behind a legacy that will put him in GOAT discussion for quite some time.

Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press does a great job of summing this moment in NBA history up. He states,

“LeBron James was the youngest player on the floor when he made his NBA debut 20 years ago. He’s now the oldest player in the league. The Kid from Akron — what James still calls himself — isn’t a kid anymore, and the 38-year-old enters this season as the NBA’s most senior player.”

Straight up crazy. However, what will James do this season? Most likely defy what people think a 38 year old NBA player can do. And we are here for it.
