Lakers Lebron James and Bronny Play in Historic Season Opener Against Timberwolves
By the time the first half was over Lebron’s dream of playing with his son had been fulfilled. During this timeframe his rookie progeny would rack up about 3 minutes of playing time and send the crowd into a frenzy. On Tuesday, the Lakers Lebron James and Bronny played in a historic season opener against the Timberwolves.
Why historic? James and his son Bronny are the first father and son duo to play together in the NBA and on the same team. A feat no other athlete families have been able to achieve. One reason being, it hard for a father baller to not only stay healthy, but stay playing long enough for his son to make it to the league.
Therefore, Lebron James is beating all the odds. His longevity in the sport of basketball continues to leave sports enthusiasts in awe. For the 2024-2025 season Lebron enters year 22 and he is still a major threat on the court.
Nevertheless, the big moment with father and son occurred during the second quarter. There are 4 minutes left to go. And the Lakers are leading the Timberwolves 35-51. Before taking to the court, Lebron had a few words of wisdom for his son.
While mic’d up a short exchange goes like this:
Lebron: “You ready?”
Bronny: (repeatedly nods) “Yup.”
Lebron: “You see the intensity right? Just play carefree though.”
Nice. It’s not the usual exchange you would witness between teammates. This is a father continuing to be just that… a dad.

Once in the game, the home crowd goes wild. One and all is truly behind father and son. Bronny gets the ball, passes it to Lebron; who passes it to Bronny. Lebron’s son gets separation from the defense and launches the ball from deep.
The delivery looks good. But it takes a bounce off the hoop. A miss. However, for the most part Bronny looked calm and relaxed while playing. Lebron gets a picturesque dunk in while his son is still on court. So there was plenty of action to behold and this is only the beginning.
After the game (Lakers defeat Timberwolves 110-103); Lebron discusses how he felt playing with Bronny. And what advice he would give to his son. Lebron states, I’m super proud of him he’s my lifeline for sure. There’s only 450 of us [in the league]. Everything is earned, it’s not given to you. You have to go out and earn it every night.”
