Las Vegas Raiders Traded For Veteran Quarterback From Cleveland Browns And Signed Amari Cooper

After having multiple quarterbacks on their roster, the team has managed to trim the position down to three. Despite having said that they would not have a problem carrying four quarterbacks on their roster. Nevertheless, the Las Vegas Raiders traded for a veteran quarterback from the Cleveland Browns and signed Amari Cooper. So while the Raiders are adding veteran depth the Browns have let go of Kenny Pickett.

Pickett had hoped to compete for the starting quarterback job in Cleveland but was waylaid by a hamstring injury. Instead he has been traded, yet again, from the Browns to the Raiders. Detailing the trade is Adam Schefter who posted:

“Trade: Browns are sending QB Kenny Pickett to the Las Vegas Raiders, per sources. Raiders needed another backup for Geno Smith with QB Aidan O’Connell fracturing his wrist in the preseason finale and being expected to miss 6-8 weeks.”

“Kenny Pickett has now been traded from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, from Philadelphia to Cleveland, and from Cleveland to Las Vegas.”

Wow that’s a lot of movement in a short period of time. In fact, this is the second time this offseason that Pickett, the No. 20 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has been traded. In March he was acquired by Cleveland from Philadelphia in exchange for a fifth-round pick and quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson.  It’s been a rough road for Pickett since he began his NFL career.

The Browns now have Joe Flacco as their starting quarterback. And head coach, Kevin Stefanski announced today that Dillon Gabriel will be the No. 2 quarterback. Which leaves Shedeur Sanders in the No. 3 spot. However, after trading QB Kenny Pickett to the Raiders for a fifth-round pick, the Browns now are set to have 10 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.

But Amari Cooper has had a good career since becoming the Raiders’ first-round pick (fourth overall) in the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent almost four seasons with the Raiders before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys where he spent almost four seasons. He was with the Browns for three seasons and one season with the Buffalo Bills in 2024. Throughout his career he was a top-rated wide receiver.

Now he’s back with the Silver and Black where he will be the most experienced and accomplished member of the Raiders receiving crew. Likely he will fill the role of mentor while also being a stabilizing and experienced target for Geno Smith. So it’s a win-win for all parties involved. We hope good things will happen for both Pickett and Cooper as they join the Las Vegas Raiders.
