Las Vegas Raiders Trade For Geno Smith From Seattle Seahawks
The silver and black have come to an agreement with the blue and neon. After initial talks regarding Maxx Crosby fizzled, the Las Vegas Raiders still made a trade for Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks. The Raiders had been looking to improve at the QB position after preparing to release Gardner Minshew.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero broke the news on the Las Vegas and Seattle trade. He reveals,
“Blockbuster: The Seahawks are trading two-time Pro Bowl QB Geno Smith to the Raiders for a 2025 third-round pick, sources tell The Insiders.
It’s a reunion for Pete Carroll and Smith, who also is expected to get a new contract. And Seattle will need a new QB.
The Seahawks are now expected to explore veteran QB options, with Sam Darnold viewed by league sources as a leading contender. The dominoes begin.”
Breaking news indeed. Furthermore, Adam Schefter backed up Tom Pelissero’s report on Smith. And he offered a few more details in regards to reasons for this change in the Seahawks organization; as well as intel on that Smith extension that was floating around the NFL rumor streets. Schefter mentions,
“Geno Smith is being traded to Las Vegas Raiders for a third round pick, per sources. Geno Smith currently has one year remaining in deal. The Raiders are trading for him without having a new deal in place. the Las Vegas Raiders trading a third-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks for Geno Smith.
Back story: Seahawks were working to extend Geno Smith’s contract over the past week. When progress was not being made, the Raiders stepped in and showed interest in acquiring Smith. With Seattle struggling to get a new deal done with Smith, they opted for the third-round pick instead.”
Sources also confirm that the Seahawks opened trade discussions with the Raiders with this blockbuster proposal—Geno Smith and DK Metcalf to Vegas for Maxx Crosby. That would have been a real jaw dropper. But Vegas of course EXPEDITIOUSLY shot that down, and told Seattle that Crosby was not available. However, both sides didn’t exactly hang up the phone. In time both parties still came to an agreement which now brings Smith to Vegas.

Geno Smith is definitely an improvement for the Raiders. And with Pete Carroll’s history with improving Geno’s talents as well as skills on the field, along with the Tom Brady mentoring factor; Las Vegas is stronger at the QB position at long last.
Furthermore, sports analyst Emmanuel Acho has the same sentiments regarding the Raiders. Acho says, “The Seahawks just traded away a quality Quarterback in an incredibly shallow Quarterback draft class. Geno Smith is 18-14, with a pro bowl in the last 2 years. He’s thrown for 8,000 yards and 41 touchdowns, to just 24 interceptions. It’s hard to find this in the NFL. It’s impossible in the 3rd round of this draft. The Raiders just got better. The Seahawks, substantially worse.”
