Las Vegas Has Officially Made Antonio Pierce the Head Coach

When Antonio Pierce was named interim head coach, the Raiders whole vibe changed. Capitalizing on that positive impact, Las Vegas has officially made Antonio Pierce the Head Coach. Pierce is a favorite with many of the Raiders players. Some openly campaigned for the organization to make the interim coach permanent. Maxx Crosby was and is one of his most vocal supporters. He even threatened to ask to be traded if Pierce was not named the head coach.

Rookie Tyree Wilson confirmed the change in energy of the team. He said, “The biggest change is the energy, along with the buy-in and camaraderie. Everyone is coming out to practice every day and working hard, trying to be better each Sunday. We know if we execute what the coaches want, we are going to win.” Further solidifying those sentiments is All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams. As another Pierce enthusiast he claimed that he would, “run through a wall for that man.”

Besides having the support of the players, he also has a diverse resume. He has spent time coaching at both the High School and Collegiate level. Pierce was the linebackers coach at Arizona State and was later promoted to defensive coordinator. He was hired to be the linebackers coach for the Raiders. In his second year he was named as the interim head coach. After which he guided the Raiders to a 5-4 record and came close to making the playoffs.

Antonio Pierce Head Coach of the Raiders

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is among the first to be in on the Raiders being close to making Pierce officially the HC, Adam writes,

“Raiders are working to finalize a deal to hire Antonio Pierce as their head coach, per sources.

Raiders made Pierce their interim HC on Halloween night and now are closing in on making it a full-time job. Players who campaigned for Pierce soon are expected to be happy.”

How wonderful. Furthermore, the key to a strong franchise is ensuring that the players are happy and wanting to buy into the team culture. Sometimes ownership doesn’t always make the best moves in this regard. However, this time its different for the Raiders. Once more Schefter reports,

“In 2022, Raiders players wanted Mark Davis to hire interim HC Rich Bissacia. Davis went elsewhere.

Two years later, Raiders players wanted Mark Davis to hire interim HC Antonio Pierce. This time, Davis has listened.”

Fun fact, Pierce served as a communications intern for the Howard Stern show in 2008 for a week. He had expressed a desire to have a career in broadcasting. He did go on to work at ESPN as an analyst.

With this promotion, Pierce joins a unique group of individuals. As Adam Schefter posted this interesting tidbit:

“ESPN has become an unofficial training ground for future head coaches. Those who left ESPN for coaching jobs include Bill Parcells, Herm Edwards, Kevin O’Connell, Jon Gruden, Jeff Saturday and now Antonio Pierce.”

Well done Antonio. He looks to be in excellent company. Therefore, football fans are excited to see what great things he will accomplish out in the desert. So as your new head coach likes to say, “Raider Nation stand up!”
