Las Vegas Aces A’ja Wilson Signing 6-Year Nike Extension; One of Richest in Women’s Basketball

She made history during the 2024 season and now she is about to make even more BANK. As we always say, it pays to be talented. On Tuesday it was confirmed that Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson is signing a 6-year extension with Nike. One of the richest shoe deals in women’s basketball.

So basically, Wilson can’t seem to stop being historic. Back in September, A’ja set a mark that no one else has in professional women’s basketball. As the NBA even heralded at the time, “A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces celebrates after becoming the first WNBA player to score 1,000 points in a single season. [The] Aces star sets a new statistical standard after breaking Jewell Loyd’s single-season scoring record.”

Nice. However, if you’re curious about Loyd and the official stats, we got you. Loyd had set the record during the previous season. Yet, in 2024 Wilson broke the previous mark of 939 points set by Jewell Loyd in 2023; and she did so with her 941st point just before the first half of a Las Vegas Aces’ matchup against the Indiana Fever. A’ja would go on to finish the regular season with 1,021 points.

However, fast forward a few months and even in the offseason Wilson is still making plenty of noise. Regarding the 6-year lucrative extension with Nike, ESPN’s Shams Charania and Alexa Philippou report,

“The news comes after Wilson was named to Nike’s roster of signature athletes in May and announced the launch of her signature shoe, the “A’One,” which will be released in spring 2025 prior to the WNBA season.

Wilson’s new deal ranks among the highest-paid shoe endorsements in the sport, alongside those of 2024 WNBA No. 1 draft pick Caitlin Clark, USC star JuJu Watkins and Liberty standout Sabrina Ionescu.

Earlier this year, Clark reportedly signed an eight-year contract worth well over $20 million plus potential bonuses with Nike. Watkins also agreed to a multiyear contract extension with the footwear giant in October. Ionescu debuted her second signature shoe, which has gained popularity in the NBA, with Nike this spring.”

So then, A’ja is in very good company. Also, when you are a three-time MVP, you tend to earn respect… and a fatter paycheck. Therefore, congratulations to Wilson on this new extension milestone. And it’s nice to see more deals like this one get done in the realm of women’s sports.
