Lakers Lebron James First NBA Player to Score 50,000 Points!
He is all ready the greatest scorer in professional basketball history. Snatching the crown from the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (a record that stood for 39 years). But now the Los Angeles superstar is continuing to enhance and amplify his ever growing legacy. On Tuesday, the history books received yet another addition; the Lakers Lebron James is now the first NBA player to score 50,000 points.
That figure and statistic is absolutely ridiculous. Once more James is showing his greatness in his abilities and longevity on the court. He has been in the game since he was just a teenager. And now in his 40’s he’s still not only giving players half his age a run for their money, but giving them an elite level to aspire towards in the future.
Going into Sunday’s matchup versus the Los Angeles Clippers, the assumption was that James would set the milestone during the game. And anyone feeling that way had every reason to believe that would be the case. Lebron was just 18 points from achieving the big 50K mark. For James that is what we call “light work.” This season he is averaging 24.9 points, 8.6 assists and 8.1 rebounds in 54 games. Furthermore as NBA.com points out,
“LeBron is on the verge of [this] milestone while playing some of his best ball of the season – averaging 29.3 points on 55.5% shooting and 44.3% from 3-point range over 11 games in the month of February.
During February, LeBron also became the first player in NBA history to have multiple 40+ point games at age 40 or higher. Michael Jordan is the only other 40-year-old with a 40+ point game with a record 43-point performance on Feb. 21, 2003.”

Nevertheless, in the end, James would come up JUST short of the goal. Missing the chance to hit 50,000 by just ONE point. Therefore, fans would have till wait.
It was a long 48 hours, but the moment finally arrived. Being a true showman, Lebron did not try to get his one historic point right away. The crowd kept screaming for it and eventually James obliged. Lebron hits a BIG 3 taking his scoring tally in the regular season and playoffs to 50,002! He had done it. Here’s how the record books read at this moment in sports:
Lebron James: 50,002
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: 44,149
Karl Malone: 41,689
Kobe Bryant: 39,283
Michael Jordan: 38,279
Right now there is no one close to being able to challenge James. No one in the vicinity and he’s still adding on to the final tally. So then, this record is going to stand for a very long time.
