Lakers and NBA Release Statements About Postponed Game Against Hornets

There is finally another sports update regarding the purple and gold. Their home city is being devastatingly destroyed by multiple fires across the region. The Palisades, Eaton and Hurst fires, fueled by powerful winds, have forced the evacuations of more than 100,000 people. Furthermore, the Palisades Fire has already burned through more than 15,800 acres; and the Eaton Fire has exploded to 10,600 acres, both with no containment. The Hurst Fire has affected 855 acres but is now 10% contained; while the Lidia Fire was at nearly 350 acres with 40% containment. The smaller Woodley Fire was under control. Due to these circumstances and conditions the game to be played at Crypto.com Arena (Staples Center) is being moved to a later date; and the Lakers and NBA have released statements about the Postponed Game Against the Hornets.

Los Angeles was set to play Charlotte on Thursday when the decision was made to postpone. The NBA revealed,

“The National Basketball Association game scheduled for tonight between the Charlotte Hornets and Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena has been postponed due to the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area. The date for the rescheduled game will be announced at a later time. The entire NBA family sends its thoughts and support to the community of Los Angeles during this challenging time. We are grateful for the thousands of local firefighters and first responders who have demonstrated enormous bravery. Our prayers remain with those affected by the unimaginable devastation caused by the wildfires.

Other teams have also discussed or postponed games. Such the Los Angeles Kings and the LA Rams.

Additionally, the Lakers organization also spoke on Thursday’s postponement. The franchise states,

“We’re heartbroken for Los Angeles.

Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this unimaginable situation.

And our gratitude is with the first responders and all of you who come together when we need each other the most.

Tonight’s game will be rescheduled to focus on what matters most today.

We’re with you, LA.”

Yes, thoughts are with those in Los Angeles battling against the elements and in need of aid. Currently, the Palisades Fire is the largest of the fires burning in the Los Angeles region, with more than 15,800 acres scorched, according to fire officials. The Eaton Fire, burning in the Altadena and Pasadena areas, has sadly killed five people and burned more than 10,000 acres.
