LA Rams Release Statement Regarding Monday Night’s Wild Card Game Amid Fires
California is currently being devastated by a series of fires with firefighters unable to gain full control and containment. This situation has caused many to flee their homes and communities; as well as the cancellation of numerous high profile happenings and popular sports events including the People’s Choice Awards, the Academy Awards nominations announcement and LA Kings game. However, for the NFL the show must go on. On Thursday, the LA Rams released a statement regarding Monday Night’s upcoming Wild Card Game amid the Palisades and Eaton Fires.
Here is the Los Angeles franchise’s statement in its entirety:
“The safety of the Los Angeles community is our top priority, and our thoughts are with everyone affected by the fires in the area. We are grateful for the tireless efforts of first responders who continue to protect our city and community as well as individuals who continue to help our neighbors in need.
As of now, the Wild Card playoff game featuring your Los Angeles Rams and the Minnesota Vikings remains scheduled to be played at SoFi Stadium on Monday night at 5 PM PT. As with all games, the NFL has contingency plans in the event a change in location is needed due to the tragic fires in our region. If the NFL decides a change in location is needed, the game would be played on Monday night at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ. That is currently only a contingency plan and if that happens we will inform all ticket holders via email what that means for their current tickets.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in contact with local officials, the NFL and NFLPA.
We hope you all are somewhere safe and we hope to see you Monday night.
Los Angeles Rams”
There has been limited success in the California fire dilemma. Which could make Monday’s game safer. For instance, the Sunswept Fire in Studio City has been successfully knocked down. And the Woodley Fire was contained on Wednesday.
Additionally, the Sunset Fire that broke out in Runyon Canyon last night is now 100% contained, according to the LAFD. Furthermore, evacuation orders for that area have been lifted; however, other areas are not so fortunate.

The Palisades Fire has burned through more than 17,234 acres, almost 27 square miles. It has destroyed 1,000 structures and is entirely uncontained. Thus, making it the most destructive in L.A. history. Furthermore, remains were found at a residential home in the Palisades today, marking the first confirmed death in the destructive blaze covering thousands of acres.
We are sure the NFL and the Rams will monitor things closely. And if a move in venue becomes necessary they will do so. Our thoughts are with all those affected by the fires in SoCal.
