Knicks and Forward Mikal Bridges Agree to a Four-Year $150 Million Extension

They came close to making a NBA Finals appearance. So then, this east coast franchise is deciding to run it back and keep the band together. On Thursday, it was announced that the Knicks and forward Mikal Bridges has agreed to a four-year $150 million extension. New York gave Bridges a player option and trade kicker as well in the new deal.

Basketball insider Shams Charania was among the first to confirm reports on Mikal. Shams briefly discussed the player option and how this works out financially for New York as well as Bridges. Charania reveals,

“BREAKING: New York Knicks forward Mikal Bridges has agreed to a four-year, $150 million contract extension with the franchise, agents Sam Goldfeder and Jordan Gertler of Excel Sports Management tell ESPN. The new deal includes a player option for 2029-30 and a trade kicker.

Bridges takes a slight discount from his max extension number ($156M) in order to help the Knicks have flexibility to continue building the roster and add pieces to the East championship contender.”

So then, now New York has the players they want under control for the next couple of seasons. The Knicks will have Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, Pacome Dadiet, and Tyler Kolek under contract through the 2027-28 season. While Karl-Anthony Towns has a $61 million player option that year.

Therefore, no real surprises here for Bridges and the Knicks, as he was always expected to agree to a long-term deal this offseason. The two sides were able to come together and get an agreement on a contract extension done. A deal that felt comfortable to both. Bridges took slightly less than the max he could’ve received to help the Knicks. A savings of $6 million. Not much that could be done with that; however, in sports sometimes every bit helps.

Furthermore, as you may recall Jalen Brunson took a substantial pay cut in order to help New York make moves like the one today. And to be able to reach closer to the team’s ultimate goal; winning a championship. The Knicks came close last season; so then maybe their wish is close to being realized.
