Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons Agreed to Four-Year $180 Million Deal

The Vikings legend is moving on from Minnesota and is headed to Hotlanta. Per NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a four-year 180 million deal. The Vikings allowed Cousins to test the free agency market and Atlanta was quick to swoop in with the deal. As reported by Pelissero:

“Cousins’ deal includes a $50 million signing bonus and $90 million guaranteed over the next two seasons. With an additional $10 million guaranteed in 2026 for a whopping $100 million total in guarantees.”

That’s a pretty good deal. Especially since Cousins is coming back from an Achilles tear injury he suffered during Week 8 of the 2023 season. He’ll be joining his third team since the start of his career. However, he has played consistently and been mostly healthy during his time in the NFL. And the Falcons were looking to get some stability at the quarterback position. So it appears the deal is a good fit for all parties involved. But that’s not to say the Vikings didn’t try to keep Cousins.

According to NFL Insider Mike Garafolo, “Kirk Cousins camp and the Vikings were unable to come to an agreement to as far back as last year. So yes this was certainly an indication that the Falcons were willing to make a significant commitment on this one. And it was not without a final push from the Vikings. My understanding was last night they really came strong even into today. To the point where the Falcons knew that it was going to be a potential bidding war here. And that the price was going to be pushed up by the fact that the Vikings were making this final push to potentially bring Kirk Cousins back.”

In other free agency news, the Eagles will be signing free agent DE Bryce Huff formerly of the New York Jets. It’s a three-year deal for $51.1 million. Per Adam Schefter, “The deal will make Huff the highest-paid non-QB undrafted free agent in NFL history per sources.”

He’s been in the league since 2022 and has amassed 17.5 sacks in his career. Ten of them came in his 2023 season which no doubt attracted the attention of many teams. Huff may not be a household name but he is a hunter of quarterbacks. His pass-rushing abilities are second to none. Obviously Eagles GM Howie Roseman knew this, pounced, and got the deal done.
