Kevin Garnett Reuniting With Timberwolves and Lynx in New Business Role; Jersey to be Retired

“THE BIG TICKET IS BACK!” So announced the Minnesota organization early Thursday afternoon. Number 21 was famously bestowed with the nickname “The Big Ticket,” due to his early years with the Minnesota Timberwolves becoming a superstar who brought fans to the arena. Well now the former NBA player is returning to his “roots;” Kevin Garnett is reuniting with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Lynx for a new business role and to have his jersey retirement ceremony at long last.

The Minnesota franchises’ confirm that Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett is agreeing to reunite and get to work. Kevin will be busy with not only the Minnesota Timberwolves, but the Minnesota Lynx. Filling a new, all-encompassing role involving: business, community and fan-engagement efforts; as well as content development. Furthermore, Garnett and the Timberwolves will also hold his much-awaited No. 21 jersey retirement ceremony in Minnesota over the next two seasons. Garnett was drafted fifth overall by Minnesota in the 1995 NBA Draft. Hailing from out of Farragut Career Academy High School in Chicago. Garnett would go on to spend 14 seasons with the Timberwolves.

Earning the 2004 NBA MVP award, 10 All-Star selections, multiple All-NBA honors (including three First Team selections); Plus, eight NBA All-Defensive Team nods. Till this very day, Kevin remains Minnesota’s all-time leader in points, rebounds, steals, blocks, games played and minutes.

ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news regarding Garnett’s triumphant return and new position. He reveals,

“Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett is reuniting with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Lynx in a new, all-encompassing role involving business, community efforts and content development, sources told ESPN. His long-awaited No. 21 Wolves jersey retirement will also happen in Minnesota.

Garnett had been distant from the Wolves organization since his playing career ended in 2016 due to a fallout with Glen Taylor, refusing to have his jersey retired, but built a rapport with new owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez and the sides found common ground on a reunion.”

In line with Charania’s report regarding Garnett’s relationship with the Wolves, Co‑Chairmen Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez mentioned,

This is more than a reunion—it’s a statement about honoring our past while pursuing excellence and building one of the most admired sports organizations in the world.
