Kevin Durant Ties LeBron James for 3rd-Fastest to 31,000 Points

He was already in the top ten when it comes to NBA scoring leaders. However, now in a matchup versus the Phoenix Suns, he hits yet another milestone. Kevin Durant becomes just the 8th player in NBA history to reach 31K career points. And he did so in record time. Kevin Durant ties LeBron James for 3rd-fastest to 31,000 points.

Yes, seven other superstars have racked up 31K. And they have been among the best to ever hoop. Can you name them?

Probably two names come to mind right away. First of all, Michael Jordan. During his iconic tenure in basketball he amassed 32,292 points landing him at number five on the all time list. Also, no doubt the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James rings a bell in the noggin. James has cemented himself as a legend due to his longevity and being the only player in NBA history to score at least as well as over 40,000 points.

Nevertheless, just in case you can’t remember or would just like to be refreshed; here are the top ten scoring leaders in NBA history:

All-Time Regular Season Scoring Leaders

1. LeBron James – 42,268

2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – 38,387

3. Karl Malone – 36,928

4. Kobe Bryant – 33,643

5. Michael Jordan – 32,292

6. Dirk Nowitzki – 31,560

7. Wilt Chamberlain – 31,419

8. Kevin Durant – 31,000

9. Shaquille O’Neal – 28,596

10. Carmelo Anthony – 28,289

As mentioned earlier, Durant is the third fastest to 31K. The fastest? You guessed it, MJ. Michael Jordon got it done in 1,011 games, Wilt Chamberlain hit this same mark in 1,015 games. While LeBron James and Kevin Durant now are tied for this historic accomplishment at 1,141 games.

Nonetheless, Kevin achieved his 31K in true KD fashion. In the first quarter with about 6 minutes left, Durant hit a textbook mid-range fade. Coming into Friday’s game against his former team Kevin Durant needed only 4 additional points to become just the 8th player to reach 31,000 career points. And he got it done early and effortlessly.

But what is next? Can KD go up higher on this competitive list? There’s a very good chance he can and will. Durant is now 420 points behind Wilt Chamberlain for 7th on the all-time list. He’ll likely pass Wilt, Dirk Nowitzki and maybe even MJ; if he stays healthy, sometime early next season.
