Kenny Pickett Traded To The Philadelphia Eagles
After acquiring Russell Wilson, the Pittsburgh Steelers have moved on from their quarterback. Kenny Pickett has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles get Pickett and draft pick No. 120. And the Steelers will get draft pick No. 98 and two 2025 7th round picks. Pickett was the 20th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft so his value has dropped quickly in a short period of time. His NFL career has not been what was hoped for by the Steelers.
It has been reported that Pickett requested the trade because of the Russell signing. However, I don’t know why he would want to be traded. Wilson is there on a one-year prove it deal. They Steelers were going to allow the quarterbacks to compete for the starting job. But going to Philadelphia will ensure Pickett remains a backup. He will not be starting unless Jalen Hurts gets injured.
It would seem the better option would have been to stay in Pittsburgh. Unless the Steelers had already determined that they were moving on from the Pickett experiment. In two seasons his stats were not great. He is 14-10 as a starter which is fine, but his passing completion rate is 62.6%. His average pass yards per attempt is 6.3 and he has thrown 13 TDs and 13 INTs.
By the end of the 2023 season he had been benched in favor of Mason Rudolph. By the way Rudolph signed a one-year deal with Titans worth up to $3.62 million. Therefore, Pickett would have only been competing with Wilson for the starting job.

Although Pickett has had his struggles all the blame shouldn’t be on him. Maybe he didn’t get the coaching and support he needed to improve his skill level. The Eagles have hired Doug Nussmeier as their quarterbacks coach to help Jalen Hurts get back to his elite level of play. His hiring could be a good thing for Pickett as well.
At any rate, the Steelers have moved on from Pickett and will need to bring in a backup or two. Perhaps they will consider Justin Fields as no other teams seem to want to add him to their rosters. I have no idea why there hasn’t been much interest in Fields. Especially considering all the other quarterbacks that have been picked up. Such as Jacoby Brissett, Rudolph Mason, and Sam Howell.
Of course, there are always head-scratching questions when it comes to the NFL.
