Katie Ledecky Shattered Another Record At 2025 Toyota National Championships
She did what she always seems to do while making it look effortless. She enthralled us all at the 2024 Paris Olympics and she hasn’t let her foot off the gas. In Indianapolis this week she continued her trailblazing path in the world of swimming. Yes, the incomparable Katie Ledecky shattered another record at the 2025 Toyota National Championships. She won the 1500m freestyle at the U.S. Swimming Championships by more than 25 seconds. Claire Weinstein cruised in with the second best time of 16:01.96 and Jillian Cox was third at 16:05.88.
This victory extended her 15-year win streak in the 1500m freestyle. How impressive is that level of winning and dominating for that length of time? And she also competes in the 400m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle. The purpose of this meet was to determine rosters for three upcoming international meets: the World Aquatics Championships, the World University Games, and the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships. Of course Ledecky has earned roster spots in all three categories for the World Aquatics Championships.
The World Aquatics Championships will be hosted in Singapore from July 11 through August 22, 2025. The championship is an international sporting event held every two years, bringing together elite athletes from around the world to compete in various water sports disciplines, including swimming, diving, high diving, water polo, artistic swimming, and open water swimming. No doubt Ledecky will continue her dominant streak in Singapore in just a few weeks.
However, there were others who performed very well at the National Championships such as Torri Huske. The reigning Olympic champion in the 100-meter butterfly set the fastest time in the world so far this year (52.43 seconds). To win the women’s 100m freestyle at the U.S. Swimming Championships, just ahead of Gretchen Walsh (52.78).

And speaking of Gretchen Walsh she won the Women’s 50m Freestyle tying the American record time of 23.91. She edged out Huske in this event who finished second with a time of 23.98. As they both qualified for the Singapore games we can expect more fierce competition between the two women.
Ledecky shared her thoughts on the team that will be headed to Singapore:
“I think we have a great group going to Singapore. I think on the women’s side a very experienced group…(the veterans) will carry the (rookies) through. I know the men have some newcomers as well. It will be a lot of good energy, and I think we can set the tone for the rest of the quad. Not just the Worlds team, but also the (World University Games) team, and Juniors team. I think you can see here, there are so many great junior athletes coming up. We are one team, and I think that’s what we want. We want to set the tone as a whole team, a whole unit, this summer, and build from there.”
After the jam-packed National Championships we can look forward to even more excitement in Singapore. Congratulations to everyone who made the team. We’ll see you again soon!
