Kansas City Chiefs Defeat the Bills and Keep Super Bowl Three-Peat Quest Alive!

Patrick Mahomes walked into the championship game hoping to take another step closer to becoming the MJ of the NFL and achieve the three-peat. NO TEAM in Super Bowl history has ever won three titles consecutively. Therefore, KC has a chance to make history in a way no other franchise has and set a new standard as well as precedent. And on Sunday they got a little closer to their goal, the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the Bills in the AFC Championship and keep their Super Bowl three-peat quest alive!

Buffalo had the ball to start the game, and it was SCARY to say the least. Bad Josh Allen showed up and almost threw several interceptions. It’s clear that the Bills needed to settle down and lock in. Nonetheless, as one can imagine, Buffalo has to punt.

Kansas City on the other hand, looked like Kansas City. They maneuvered down the field with relative ease and cut through the defense like butter. From 12 yards out Kareem Hunt runs it in completing a 90-yard, 9 play drive for the touchdown. With 8:58 on the clock in the first, KC is up 7-0.

But this was no time for the Bills the panic. Plenty of game left. And continuing to fight pays off. Buffalo puts 3 up on the board with a Tyler Bass 53 yard field goal. Then they get gift.

On the Chiefs second possession of the game they basically turn the ball over twice. However, the first one is nulled due to an offsides defensive penalty. But the second one sticks and the Bills get the ball back. Josh Allen and his squad makes KC pay by scoring a touchdown, it’s now 10-7. The plot thickens.

Yet, Kansas City continues to look championship caliber. The Chiefs score a touchdown, their defense gets a quick 3-and-out and then special teams delivers a great run back. Then rookie Xavier Worthy makes an insane catch just a few yards from the end zone when it looked like it had been intercepted by the Bills. Refs would utilize replay to confirm the catch. Afterwards, Mahomes jogs into the end zone for the TD; and the Chiefs are up 10-21. BUT THE BILLS EMPIRE STRIKES BACK! Buffalo scores a TD of their own, fail with the two point conversion; however, at halftime it’s 16-21. This game is a tight one.

Chiefs start the third quarter with the ball, but are not able to score. The Bills methodically go down the field during their next possession and get to the red zone. Buffalo’s James Coon then has one of the plays of the night, running hard and stretching from the 1 yard line for the TD! His efforts to punch the ball in was beyond impressive. Bills end up leading by only one point because they decide to go for a 2pt conversion attempt again, and are unsuccessful… again.

On their next possession, the Chiefs are forced to punt. Bills get the ball and immediately start heading down the field, it feels like they have momentum. But they become faced with a 4th down. It looked like Buffalo picks up the first down, line judge says yes, but another referee oddly disagrees. After some reviewing and discussing it is decided that it is KC ball. Kansas City takes advantage and scores a touchdown; but the Bills respond right back with a TD of their own. This game is TIED! 29-29.

Chiefs march back down the field, but Buffalo’s defense is able to keep Kansas City out of the end zone. KC settles for a field goal. Nevertheless, with 3:33 left in the fourth quarter, would Kansas City be able to hold on for the win or would the Bills play spoiler?

Chiefs tack on one more field goal and that would be enough. Bills would have absolutely no response. And Kansas City is heading to the Super Bowl to try to make history!

Kansas City Chiefs Defeat the Bills and Keep Super Bowl Three-Peat Quest Alive!

Speaking of history… as mentioned at the outset the NFL has never had a team win three consecutive Super Bowls; thus making the modern-day football three-peat one of the most elusive championship pinnacles in sports. Prior to the Chiefs, eight teams had won back-to-back titles, but none of them were able to win three straight Super Bowls. In the 105-year history of the NFL, only the 1929-31 and 1965-67 Packers have won three straight titles. But in the era of the Super Bowl, it has not been seen.

As the NFL proclaimed on Sunday evening, “The Chiefs are the first back-to-back champs in history to make it back to the Super Bowl the following season.” Someone had to be first. And it is Kansas City.

Now we get a rematch. Chiefs versus Eagles. Come on let us know your football thoughts. Who is winning the Super Bowl on February 9th?
