Jung Hoo Lee and Giants Agree on 6 Year-$113 Million Deal
The San Francisco Giants are getting to work. The franchise kicked off the offseason by filling their manager vacancy with Bob Melvin. Now the ball club is turning its attention to the field… centerfield to be exact. After some back and forth, Korean superstar, Jung Hoo Lee and Giants agree on 6 Year-$113 Million Deal!
This contract is great for adding star power and more strength to the Giant’s roster. However, it also improves fan enthusiasm. Since the franchise was unable to sign Aaron Judge, Carlos Correa or the newly minted Dodger, Shohei Ohtani.
Sports writer and analyst, Jon Heyman, was all over this signing. In a quick announcement, Heyman reveals,
Jung Hoo Lee to Giants. 6 years, $113M. opt out after 4 years.
Furthermore, the king of sports intel, Jeff Passan, also confirms the contract information. Passan writes,
Outfielder Jung Hoo Lee’s deal with the San Francisco Giants — six years, $113 million, an opt-out after four seasons — is a monster deal and finally lands the Giants a big-time free agent after missing on Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge and others. Jon Heyman was on the news.

Nonetheless, the San Francisco Giants are not the team who wanted Lee in their lineup for the 2024 season. Several franchises made their interest strongly known. One such ball club is the San Diego Padres.
Regarding this Bob Nightengale states,
“The San Francisco Giants finally land an outfield star: They sign Korean star center fielder Jung Hoo Lee to a 6-year, $113 million contract, as Jon Heyman reports.
The Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres all had expressed strong interest in Jung Hoo Lee before he signed his 6-year, $113 million deal with the San Francisco Giants.
Center fielder/1B Cody Bellinger now squarely on those teams’ radar, along with the Giants.”
SD News reporter, Clark Fahrenthold, also reports on Padres fans’ disappointment in not landing Lee. He says,
I know Padres fans were adamant of getting Jung Hoo Lee. But 6 years, $113M is far to much/feels like a wild overpay. The San Francisco Giants desperately needed to make a splash in FA and this contract reflects that.
Overpay or not. Lee is great Korean player. Plus, SF is showing they are willing to spend to bring their fans more championships.
