Julian Edelman Voted Into The New England Patriots Hall of Fame

No one can deny that he was a scrappy, hardworking and dependable wide receiver. Converting from a college quarterback to an NFL wide receiver, he left a mark on the organization and the league. He filled in the large shoes left behind by guys like Wes Welker and Troy Brown. Today the Patriots announced that Julian Edelman was voted into the New England Patriots Hall of Fame. He is the 37th inductee and joins other Patriots greats such as John Hannah, Ty Law, Tedy Bruschi, Vince Wilfork and of course Tom Brady.

Edelman joins Tom Brady (2024), Troy Brown (2012), Tedy Bruschi (2013), Kevin Faulk (2016), Ty Law (2014), Matt Light (2018), Willie McGinest (2015), Richard Seymour (2020) and Mike Vrabel (2023) as the 10th player to enter the Patriots Hall of Fame as a three-time Super Bowl champion with the team. Also former head coach Bill Parcells will be inducted into the Hall as a contributor.

As for Edelman, Kraft made a statement praising Edelman’s career with the patriots:

“Julian Edelman is one of the great success stories in our franchise’s history,” said Kraft. “There aren’t many players who earn an NFL roster spot at a position they have never played before. Julian not only did that as a seventh-round draft selection, but he finished his career with the second-most receptions in franchise history and as a three-time Super Bowl Champion, including his last as Super Bowl MVP. No one was more committed to his craft and honing his skills than Jules. His explosiveness off the line, quickness in his cuts and elusiveness after the catch made him one of the hardest players to defend. His clutch catches in our biggest games and overall toughness made him a fan favorite.”

Edelman was a seventh round draft pick in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Kent State. He wasn’t going to be a quarterback so he converted to a punt returner/wide receiver. Special teams is what kept him on the team but gradually he emerged as a receiver that Brady could count on. His entire NFL career was spent with the Patriots. And during that time he became second in team history with 620 receptions. He is fourth with 6,822 receiving yards and ninth with 36 receiving touchdowns. He also had 58 rushing attempts for 413 yards, the most rushing attempts and rushing yards by a wide receiver in Patriots history.

Edelman made some great plays during his tenure with the Patriots. During the 2015 AFC Divisional playoff game he tossed a touchdown to fellow wide receiver Danny Amendola. Helping to send the Patriots to the AFC Championship game. Then there was the unforgettable catch against the Atlanta Falcons during Super Bowl LI. He made a diving catch while tangled up with a Falcons defender. It looked like an incomplete catch but the replay showed he had his hand under the ball; it never touched the ground.

Edelman never hesitated to sacrifice his body to make a play. He could regularly be seen fighting through tackles, running precise routes and diving over the goal line. Whatever he was asked to do, he did it with maximum effort. That positive, can-do attitude endeared him to his teammates and coaches alike. While still playing he wrote a three-part children’s book called Flying High featuring a scrappy little squirrel. And his memoir entitled Relentless which is about his inspiring story of an underdog kid who became one of the most reliable players in the NFL.

Edelman made it clear that he was ride or die for New England and the fans loved him for it.
