Juan Soto and Padres Avoid Arbitration

Juan Soto and Padres Avoid Arbitration- Thanks to $20 Million+ Agreement

The Padres are doing WORK this off-season! As spring training looms in the near future; San Diego is not taking its foot off the pedal to thrust forward in order to gain the city its first championship title. It’s been a puzzle for AJ Preller to carefully put together; but his immense work has all the right pieces falling into the place. The latest move? Having generational talent, Juan Soto and the Padres avoid Arbitration and continue to keep their working relationship intact.

Deep down, all of us know arbitration sucks. It can leave a very bad taste in the mouth of any player who has to go through it. Making the athlete want to hightail it as fast as possible from whatever team forced them into it; when the opportunity presents itself. Therefore, for any team wanting to actually keep a player, arbitration is definitely something they will want to avoid.

Thankfully, this is exactly what San Diego was able to accomplish recently with Juan Soto and a number of other athletes on the current Padres team. However, Soto is a big, big deal. The Padres gave up a lot prospects-wise, like CJ Abrams, in order to get Juan over to the sunny state. And they want to keep him.

So then, going into arbitration with Juan and having to state all the reasons why he’s not worth a certain amount a money; is probably not the best way to keep the guy wanting to be in brown and gold. Therefore, avoiding such a harsh and embarrassing process probably was another in the Good column when it comes to Soto weighing his free agency options in the future.

So how did the Padres get Soto to agree? Baby, they showed him the money! Pockets were opened up and Juan broke out a pen; putting that good ink on the paper.

Last season, Juan Soto was already in the double digits when it comes to salary. Not surprising for a guy with his immense talents. Therefore, it was clear that the Padres needed to up the ante. And they did by agreeing to shell out more than $20 million for one year.

Yes, the Padres will be making it rain on Juan this season for $23 million. Which is a very fair and nice increase for Soto.

Is this a sign that Soto is happy and wanting to stay long term? It’s early, but it seems like both sides are in a very great place. It will be a very fun season and interesting behind the scenes drama to see what happens!
