Josh Kroenke on Nikola Jokic Potential Contract Extension and Scenario For Possibly Trading Him
The Denver Nuggets Josh Kroenke held a presser on team business as well as Nikola Jokic’s potential contract extension and a scenario for possibly trading him. TRADE?! Yes, your eyes do not fail you; the “T” word was in fact used.
But trade and Jokic seems as wild as Luka to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, anything can happen in sports. And we are now living through a timeline where Doncic is in fact donning purple and gold in sunny California. Therefore, we should never say never to any possible team decision.
So then, how are the Nuggets currently feeling about a contract extension with Jokic? Josh Kroenke explains,
“We’re definitely going to offer it. I’m not sure if he’s going to accept it or not; because we are also going to explain every financial parameter around him versus him signing now and later. Be completely transparent, that’s how we always operate. Then he can make the best decision for him and his family; and we will support him.”
Interesting. Now, what about this trading business? Well, Josh elaborated and said the Nuggets organization isn’t scared to pull the trigger on #15 if a sticky situation presents itself or develops. Nuggets owner Josh Kroenke believes there’s a nightmare scenario where if the wrong player gets injured, then the second apron could force them to consider the possibility of trading Nikola Jokić.
Yes, we all know healthy teams win championships. However, losing a recent MVP could cause a team to lose some offensive steam and leadership. But, apparently Denver is also reflecting on the massive haul they could get for a player of Jokic’s caliber.

Nevertheless, these recent Jokic revelations come on the heels of some new Nuggets organizational changes. On June 23rd the franchise confirmed that they would be naming Ben Tenzer as the executive vice president of basketball operations and hiring Minnesota Timberwolves executive Jon Wallace as the franchise’s new executive vice president of player personnel. Both Wallace and Tenzer will be reporting to Josh Kroenke.
ESPN’s Shams Charania added that these moves were made as Denver continues to work to reorganize their executive framework for the future. Shams added,
“After the late season firings of coach Michael Malone and GM Calvin Booth, the Nuggets hired David Adelman – and now will name Tenzer and Wallace as the heads of their newly restructured basketball leadership group.”
What this group collectively will decide to do when it comes to the team and Jokic remains to be seen. However, if it was left up to fans there is probably not a scenario in this world that makes sense to trade Jokic. But we will see in not so faraway future how the franchise decides to handle their biggest Nugget.
