Jordan Stolz Comes Close to Winning Trifecta Gold in 2026 Winter Olympics

He’s a speed skating phenom that has set records. And that continued in his 2026 Milano Cortina quest. This Wisconsin native had people talking about his ability to potentially win three gold medals at this year’s Olympics. And Jordan Stolz came close to winning trifecta gold in the 2026 Winter Olympics. His goal started with the 1,000 meters event, followed by the 500 meters competition. In both those events he marked new Olympic records.

Late last year in Hamar, Stolz dominated the men’s 1000m, speeding across the finish line in 1:07.63. He did the same thing this year on Feb. 11 when he dashed to gold in the men’s 1,000m event. Setting an Olympic record with a time of 1:06.28. He went into the event as the world‑record holder (1:05.37) and a two‑time world champion in the distance. He also swept all five World Cup races in the 1,000 this season.

From dominating the 1000m competition he went onto the 500m event. Stolz speedily snatched up the gold medal in this event as well. Thus, joining the rarefied company of Eric Heiden and Bonnie Blair as the only Americans to win the 500m and 1000m at the same Olympics. And he became the first American man to win the event since Joey Cheeks did it in 2006. Nevertheless, he battled it out in both events with his Dutch rival Jenning De Boo. The pair went 1-2 in the 1000 and 500m competitions. While they both blew past the previous Olympic records in each event.

So, having gotten two gold medals under his belt, it was time to make it three. He aimed to do that by winning the men’s 1500m speed skating competition. However, China’s Zhongyan Ning had other ideas shocking the world with his blazing time of 1:41.98. In spite of Stolz breaking the previous Olympic record, it wasn’t enough for the gold. He did win the silver medal ahead of other competitors who had also put up blistering speeds.

Even the 2022 Beijing gold medalist Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands, who set the previous Olympic record couldn’t surpass Ning with a time of 1:42.82. Nuis won the bronze medal this time around. Ning’s time of 1:41.98 was excellent enough to nudge out Stolz for the gold. However, the world record still stands at 1:40.17.

Although he wasn’t able to complete the trifecta of gold medals, Stolz is still a winner. And he’s only 21 years old so we’ll continue to see plenty of him in the years to come. Congrats Jordan on your two gold and one silver Olympic medals!
