Jonathan Kuminga is Currently Demanding the Warriors For a Trade

He wants out, now. Reporting for NBA Today on GSW’s fifth-year forward, on Thursday it was revealed by Shams Charania that Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga is currently demanding the Warriors for a trade. Issues between the parties have been allowed to fester, sour and now seem to be beyond redemption and repair.

During his morning updates, regarding Kuminga, Charania revealed,

“Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga has demanded a trade away from the Warriors as he becomes eligible to be moved Thursday, sources tell ESPN.

Kuminga could not be traded until Thursday, according to the terms of the contract he signed this summer. The trade deadline is Feb. 5.

Kuminga hasn’t seen the floor in the Warriors’ past 13 games. Kerr buried him at the bottom of his deep rotation, and Kuminga ruled himself out with back soreness an hour before a game on Jan. 2 against the Thunder, when Kerr said he planned to use him while the starters rested.

Team sources said that essentially every major figure on the ground level of the operation — most notably Kuminga, Kerr and the veterans watching a $22.5 million player sit on the bench while the team is stuck in a “mediocre” state, as Jimmy Butler called it — agree that the best resolution is to trade Kuminga prior to the deadline.”

Furthermore, another thing to note is that apparently there are at least some within the Warriors organization that wouldn’t mind keeping Jonathan Kuminga for the rest of the season. Per Shams Charania, the NBA insider added this tidbit regarding the Kuminga trade situation:

“The Warriors’ decision-makers have also given zero assurances to any team that Kuminga will be traded prior to the deadline, despite the desires and dynamics at play, believing it could prove better business to push the decision to the summer. Rival executives said they believe that stance is a bluff and Kuminga will be moved.”

So then, will he stay or will he go? Wait till summer or pull the trigger now? Some rumored team possibilities include the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings; although some Lakers fans would probably like a word. And a band of GSW fans would celebrate seeing MPJ in Warriors duds. Nevertheless, no matter how this ends, Jonathan Kuminga has made his position clear, he wants the divorce.
