Jon Heyman Says Four Teams Could Be Thinking $700 Million for Juan Soto
If you thought last offseason was financially nuts. Well hold on to your baseball caps because in a moment we all could be experiencing a bit of free agency deja vu. On Friday, a familiar sports face and reporter discussed a bit about the biggest free agent; as well as what amounts organizations could be offering; the numbers are staggering. Jon Heyman says that Four Teams Could Be Thinking $700 Million for Juan Soto.
Does it seem like you have seen this situation before? You have, just 12 months ago with Shohei Ohtani. He left the Angels and snagged a whopping $700 million dollar contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, don’t worry for LA or their Scrooge McDuck safe. The ball club made plenty of it back AND ended their full season World Series drought. Becoming the 2024 champions so the deal was beyond worth it.
And it looks like they are prepared to continue the trend of big spending. All in hopes of extending their championships winning window. Which is really the goal of any MLB team. This is exactly what most aim (or should aim) to do. Give your club the chance to win and win often.
Yet, we digress. Getting back to Juan Soto, Heyman believes that franchises are thinking Ohtani money when it comes to Juan. Who are the four teams that he believes is okay with offering such a price tag? Jon believes that all teams in the bidding for Juan Soto except the Dodgers have made a bid “in the ballpark” of 15 years $700 million. So then to refresh your memory, the other four franchises heavily involved are:
- New York Yankees
- New York Mets
- Boston Red Sox
- Toronto Blue Jays

However, what about the Los Angeles Dodgers? Where are they at in terms of what amount of cash is needed to tempt Soto into joining up with Shohei and donning LA blue? Well, once again via Bleacher Report, Jon Heyman states that, “The Los Angeles Dodgers have made an offer of at least $600 million to Juan Soto in free agency. The Dodgers have, in fact, made a competitive offer to Soto, however, the other four teams have made offers around $700 million.”
So then, the Soto sweepstakes continues. Of course, these are all estimations from various sources. But we won’t have the real picture until this free agency saga concludes. However, what do you think? Should Soto’s contract be in the $600-$700 million range?
