John Cena Set to Return as the Host of Wrestlemania 42 in Las Vegas
The math wasn’t exactly mathing when it came to the WWE ticket sales. So, Wrestlemania decided to make a quick, yet iconic change to help provide a boost to the longstanding event. John Cena is set to return as the host of Wrestlemania 42 in Las Vegas.
Sources said that the move and decision to add John Cena as the WrestleMania host was made in order to help boost ticket sales. Furthermore, his addition to the Las Vegas extravaganza will be promoted heavily this week on WWE TV. Regarding the low ticket sales, Sports Illustrated reported,
“WrestleMania 42 is less than a month away and WWE is still working hard to move tickets to the event inside of Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Earlier this month, the company jolted ticket sales for their biggest event of the year when they celebrated Austin 3:16 day. On 3/16, tickets for WrestleMania 42 and other WWE live events were 31.6% off. WWE now has a new offer to keep sales momentum rolling.
WWE is now offering a 25% discount on WrestleMania tickets. The goal is, of course, to increase sales and to make sure the building looks full by the time the first bell rings. The special sale can be applied toward Raw, SmackDown, and Hall of Fame tickets during WrestleMania week in Las Vegas.”
The wild part in this scenario is that Cena has barely been “gone.” Like around four months. John Cena officially retired from in-ring WWE action on December 13, 2025, following a loss to Gunther at “Saturday Night’s Main Event” on ESPN. This match concluded his year-long “retirement tour,” which he announced in July 2024 to mark the end of his 23-year career.

However, John is already “back.” John Cena will make his fourth consecutive appearance at Wrestlemania. He’s been a staple at this popular event. He’s been a fan favorite; therefore, it feels good to see him back a part of the festivities. Cena being retired and now returning to do this hosting bit is literally for the “love of the game.” But in the end, it is really the fans that will win big.
Cena excitedly took to social media to announce his Wrestlemania news, he simply stated, “Since retirement, my “road” has looked a little different… but now I can officially say I’m headed to WrestleMania!!!! See you in Las Vegas!”
