Jim Harbaugh is Leaving Michigan to Accept Chargers Head Coach Job
It’s an end of an era, and the beginning of a fresh new start for the Bolts. Jim Harbaugh is leaving Michigan to accept Chargers Head Coach job and sources believe he’ll be locked into the HC position for at least half a decade. Plenty of time to help the Chargers to finally get that coveted Super Bowl win; (the Bolts are one of 12 teams to never have won a SB).
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is on top of this story. He breaks the news by stating,
“Breaking: Jim Harbaugh is leaving Michigan to accept the head coaching job with the Los Angeles Chargers, sources tell ESPN. The Chargers get their man while the national champions now have a head-coach opening.
Chargers are giving former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh a five-year deal, per sources.”
Furthermore, Jim Harbaugh is leaving Ann Arbor with quite the coaching record. He leaves Michigan a champion and legend. According to Bleacher Report, Harbaugh’s tenure is definitely one for the college football history books. BR states,
“Jim Harbaugh’s time at Michigan comes to an end: 89-25 record. Three straight Big Ten titles, 2023 undefeated season and National Champion Ann Arbor legend.”
What about the athletes still on Michigan’s team? This news may affect their decisions regarding their future. Media personality, Tom VanHaarven, shared a quick thought about this
“Michigan players have 30 days to enter the transfer portal once Jim Harbaugh officially leaves Michigan. A few things will factor into that, though: – If Sherrone Moore is made head coach, it seems likely quite a few would stay.”

Doug Rush for FanSided also has some speculative thoughts on possible Harbaugh staffing. Rush mentions,
“Have to wonder if it’s irony or just a massive coincidence that Jim Harbaugh accepts the Chargers job on the same day that Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown is doing his second interview for the Chargers GM job. Brown and Harbaugh have an unknown connection, which has lead some to think Harbaugh and Brown could land together with the Chargers.”
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also reports on a Brown sighting. He also gives some additional personnel information. Rapoport reveals,
“The Chargers will bring Ravens Director of Player Personnel Joe Hortiz in for a second, in-person GM interview tomorrow, sources say. They had Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown in today. The new GM will work with Jim Harbaugh.”
Interesting. The Chargers get their guy as their new Head Coach and Bolts fans rejoice. Jim Harbaugh could just be the key to unlock a championship.
