Jeremiah Estrada Joins the San Diego Padres- His Brief Statement

The Friars are quietly making moves to help them stay competitive for years to come. One of the major tasks and objectives at hand is to shore up the pitching. To help with this aspect, the Pads looked to the Chicago Cubs and grabbed one of their players. Without further ado, Jeremiah Estrada joins the San Diego Padres, to be a relief pitcher.

Estrada was born in November of 1998 and is from California. Indio, California to be exact. He’s a pitcher who consistently throws in the upper 90s; close to 100mph. With the goal of making guys miss and strikeout. This is the type of hurler the Padres need.

Furthermore, Estrada has been apart of the Cubs organization for some time now. Several years in fact. Jeremiah was the Cubs’ sixth round pick back in 2017; making his MLB debut five years later in 2022.

Estrada’s arsenal includes a slider, four-seam fastball and a change up. Moreover, word on these pitching streets is that he also possesses a handy curveball. While all the above may sound nice, the problem is… lately (2023) he gives up a lot of home runs and several players seem to be able to time his pitches.

These issues could stem from being moved up too soon. Or not having the opportunity to fully recover from injury. Therefore, he lacks some of the conditioning he could of received if given the time. Nevertheless, at one point Estrada was looked at as being a closer; so then with a little work and help from Padres’ coach,  Niebla; he might still get there.

Nonetheless, although he is departing, the Cubs will still miss him. The Southbend Cubs, Chicago’s High-A Affiliate said a nice goodbye. They state,

“Let’s be honest… he made [our] jersey look good. Thank you Jeremiah Estrada for everything and best of luck on your future. You will be missed in the Cubs organization. #ClassAct.”

It’s never easy to switch teams; however, Estrada is taking it all in stride. In a brief statement he thanks the Cubs and looks to the future. Jeremiah says,

“I’d like to thank Jed Hoyer, Matt Dorey and the many amazing people in the Cubs organization for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime. These last few years have been an incredible experience and have taught me so much. I’ll miss the fans, my teammates…

coaches and staff that do so much behind the scenes to make us better players and individuals. Now, I look forward to a fresh start with the Padres organization and playing with some of the greatest talent in the game. Beyond Grateful & Blessed. Thank you again.”
