Jaylen Waddle Inked Huge Extension With Miami Dolphins
Another young wide receiver has secured his bag. Earlier this week Nico Collins signed an extension with the Houston Texans. Now Jaylen Waddle has inked a huge extension deal with the Miami Dolphins. Adam Schefter reported the news on his X.com account:
“Miami and WR Jaylen Waddle reached agreement today on a three-year, $84.75 million contract extension that includes $76 million guaranteed, per sources. The deal makes Waddle one of the league’s top five highest-paid receivers. WME Football negotiated and confirmed the deal.”
Much like the Texans, the Dolphins clearly wanted to lock down the young and productive wide receiver. Thereby avoiding him becoming a free agent next year just like Nico Collins. Not only are the Dolphins investing in their young talent but they are keeping their wide receiver corps intact. And his teammates couldn’t be happier about it. Speedster, Tyreek Hill said on his x.com account, “Couldn’t be more happier.” And cornerback teammate Jalen Ramsey added: “YEAHHHHH DUB! Get that munyun! BIG YEAR loading!”
Waddle had an excellent rookie year in 2021. He started in 16 games and totaled 1,015 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. Having a 1,000 plus yards season is good production for any wide receiver, much less a rookie. However, that’s the standard Jaylen has set for himself as he has totaled over 1,000 yards in all three of his first three seasons. Also, in three seasons Waddle has accumulated 251 passes, 3,385 yards and 18 touchdowns. Having this kind of production at the wide receiver position will likely cause headaches for the rest of the league.

It’s great that Waddle got this extension. But that does leave questions about QB Tua Tagovailoa getting his extension. Since 2024 will be the fifth and final year of his contract you have to wonder what is holding up the process. Maybe the Dolphins are not quite convinced he’s the guy. But I doubt that, so it’s probably a money issue. They will have to crunch the numbers and come up with a deal that works for all parties.
But the good thing is that Tagovailoa has a great wide receiver corps. And they can all help him to shine and put away any lingering doubts about their quarterback. In the meantime, congrats to Waddle on his new lucrative contract.
