Jannik Sinner Outlasts Taylor Fritz for 2024 US Open Title

What a tournament! There’s been a lot of twists and turns; and numerous upsets. However, all the battles are finished and we now have a winner. In a display of sheer athleticism, Jannik Sinner outlasts Taylor Fritz for the 2024 US Open title. The 23-year-old Sinner becomes the 1st Italian player to win multiple Grand Slam singles titles in the Open Era.

The entire match, Jannik was in full control. Sinner defeated Taylor Fritz 6-3 6-4 7-5. And he did so in front of a full house of famous faces. Such as Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce and Paul George.

Nevertheless, after solidifying his win, Sinner had a very nice message for New York; as well as fans all around the world. Jannik states,

Thank you New York!!

Incredibly special to win my second slam title here after a great two weeks. Thank you for all the support, it means so much. I love this sport and it means everything to me, time to enjoy this moment with my team and my family before we get back to work for the end of the year. The work never stops, we keep pushing.

The presentation of the trophy also was a sight to behold. Especially, due to the presence of an iconic tennis legend; and the history he made over 2 decades ago. Yes, 25 years after winning the US Open, Andre Agassi returned to present this year’s trophy to Jannik Sinner. A very nice touch.

Most of us will never know the feeling of winning a Grand Slam. However, Jannik Sinner has now done it twice. AND in the same year. Wild.

Well after his match on Sunday, Sinner was asked by the media which Slam was harder to win. Sinner answered,

“I believe that you can’t really compare them, because it’s different circumstances, different times of the year. I believe that in Melbourne was a kind of a relief, you know, because in my mind, you know, it was like I was working for it, and you never know if you can win one Grand Slam or not, but when you win one, you know that you can do it potentially.

Here it was difficult because also the pretournament circumstances weren’t easy. I felt like that I have grown, you know, match by match and that my confidence level went higher and higher at some point. It was different because I had more, maybe a bit more pressure this time than in Australia. I’m happy how I handled this one. Yeah, I’m just excited to have this trophy with me.”

What an accomplishment. Jannik Sinner is only the 4th man in more than 50 years to win his first two Grand Slam titles in the same season. Definitely has been one of the best tennis players in the world all year.
