Jalen Hurts Concussed Eagles 10-Game Winning Streak Ended
Prior to their Week 5 bye, the Eagles had two wins and two losses. Coming out of the bye the Eagles went on a tear. But yesterday their quarterback Jalen Hurts was concussed and the Eagles’ 10-game winning streak ended. The Washington Commanders refused to lay down and die and instead ruined the Eagles good thing. But what is even more interesting is that if the Commanders win their final two games and the Eagles lose their final two games, the Commanders can win the NFC East. Both teams have what would be considered easy schedules. The Eagles will play the Cowboys and the Giants and the Commanders will play the Falcons and Cowboys.
So, if the Commanders win out and the Eagles lose out, then the Commanders would win the NFC East division. Both teams would have a 12-5 record and by virtue of the tiebreaker the Commanders would have a 4-2 division record but Philadelphia would have a 3-3 divisional record. It would seem that the Eagles should win at least against the Giants, who currently have the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, we’ll have to see if Hurts is able to clear concussion protocol. As head coach Nick Sirianni said, “We lean on the doctors to let us know on a daily basis where he is.”
As far as the game yesterday, QB Jalen Hurts left in the first quarter. Hurts ran on a second-and-20 play from the Washington 34-yard line and then hit the ground to avoid the defense. But Washington’s Frankie Luvu hit Hurts from the side and the officials took Hurts off the field for evaluation. Kenny Pickett came in and completed 3-of-3 passes for 20 yards and a touchdown.

But Pickett faced intense pressure after that and the Eagles struggled to put the football in the end zone. The Eagles were just 3-of-16 on third downs and 2-of-4 in the red zone. They even stymied the amazing Saquon Barkley after he had a tremendous to the game. He had 41 yards on 22 carries after the first quarter. After Hurts left the game the Eagles offense suffered. But the team also struggled with 10 penalties for 91 lost yards, allowed big plays on defense, gave up some kickoff returns, and didn’t close in the fourth quarter when they had the chance.
Instead the Commanders rose to the challenge. The defense couldn’t get that last stop and Washington came from behind to win. This Commanders team is the complete opposite of what it was last season, so kudos to them. And hopefully Hurts will be back for Week 17.
