Jaguars Travis Hunter Underwent Season-Ending Knee Surgery to Address LCL Repair

He won the Heisman and then was drafted. Thus, bringing his exciting two-way talents and abilities to the NFL. However, before the 2025-2026 season could reach the halfway mark; tragedy would strike… injury. On Tuesday, the Jags provided an update on their young rising star. The Jaguars CB/WR Travis Hunter underwent season-ending knee surgery to address an LCL repair. The organization now has its eyes set on 2026 for Hunter’s return.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, “A lateral collateral ligament (LCL) tear is a knee injury that causes pain, swelling and bruising. Your LCL is a band of tissue located on the outside of your knee (the side that faces away from your body). This tissue connects your lower leg bones to your thigh bone. It stops your knee from bending outward abnormally. The lateral (outside) collateral ligament (your LCL) connects the femur and fibula. Thanks to these ligaments, you can move your knee sideways. Anyone who makes stop-and-go movements or does a lot of twisting or bending could also tear an LCL.”

Fortunately, beyond the LCL (isolated lateral collateral ligament) there was no additional damage to the knee, which Hunter injured during practice on Oct. 30. Travis was then put on injured reserve after suffering the non-contact injury in October while doing defensive drills in practice. Travis Hunter is now expected to return within 6 months to full football activities.

Tuesday afternoon, the Jacksonville Jaguars released an official statement about Travis Hunter and his surgery. The franchise confirms:

“Earlier today, Jaguars WR/DB Travis Hunter underwent successful surgery to repair an isolated lateral collateral ligament (LCL) injury in his right knee, the team announced.

Beyond the LCL, there was no additional damage to the knee, which Hunter injured during practice on Oct. 30. The procedure was performed by Dr. Dan Cooper and Jaguars team physician, Dr. Kevin Kaplan, in Dallas. Hunter, 22, will miss the remainder of the 2025 season, but is expected to return within six months to full football activities.”

Very good news about Travis. Back in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Rams at Wembley Stadium, Hunter scored his first NFL career touchdown on a 34-yard pass from Trevor Lawrence and finished the game with 8 receptions for 101 yards. In his rookie season he has also tallied 11 tackles, 1 pass breakup, and a PFF coverage grade of 67.5. We hope Hunter heals up fast and can’t to see him back in action in 2026.
