Jaguars Prevailed And Sent the Saints Marching
It was a battle in the Bayou. But the Jaguars prevailed and sent the Saints marching on Thursday night. Ultimately, the Saints’ sixth ranked defense could not stop the 12th ranked Jaguars’ offense. In the first half the Jaguars moved the ball down the field like a well-oiled machine. While Derek Carr and his offense could not get into any kind of rhythm.
However, considering the Jags defense was ranked 23rd you’d think the Saints could have moved the ball. Scored some points. But that didn’t happen in the first half having to settle for two field goals. But the story changed in the second half. It was like the two teams reversed roles. The Saints were able to move the ball and connect on some critical passes. On the other hand the Jaguars went into a slump. They couldn’t pass or run the ball with much success.
Eventually the Saints came back and tied the score. Yet that seemed to be the spark the Jaguars needed. Trevor Lawrence put the team on his back despite the large knee brace he wore. He ran when he needed to run. He passed when he needed to pass. On the go-ahead possession it only required two plays to take back the lead. Christian Kirk caught a pass and took it 44 yards to the house.

Yet there was still time left on the clock. And Carr moved his team with precision right down the field. With 1:06 to go the Saints got to the Jaguars’ six yard line. Three incomplete passes later they had one more chance to get the tying score. Carr threw a great pass to WR Chris Olave but it was knocked down by Buster Brown.
That’s one of the best pass defensed I’ve seen this season. Carr tried to put the ball down low where only his receiver could get it. But Brown wedged himself in between the ball and receiver. Nearly getting the interception.
Although the Jaguars faltered a bit in the second half they did rally for the win. I think they are still growing and improving. They haven’t reached their full potential yet. But they will likely continue their winning ways.
As for the Saints, they haven’t got things figured out yet. There is clearly some frustration on the offensive side of the ball. Carr was seen yelling at the offensive coordinator again. At 3-4, they need to get things turned around. Or they will be marching into oblivion this season.
Some Additional Thoughts
Week seven is off to a competitive start. I hope the other games will be just as engaging. The Lions @ Ravens should provide some nail-biting action. Another stellar matchup will be Dolphins @ Eagles. Both teams are 5-1 but the Eagles will look to get back on track after being handed their first loss last week.
Teams on a bye this week: Panthers, Bengals, Cowboys, Texans, Jets, Titans.
