And economic development experts say the move could elevate the city’s status in ways that go far beyond sports. Moreover, this temporary relocation is a necessary and important step to facilitate the 2028 completion of Jacksonville’s Stadium of the Future. So how did this decision come to be finalized?

This Jaguars situation started really picking up speed just three days ago. NFL owners came together to vote and discuss this particular issue. National Football League owners gathered in Phoenix during an annual spring meeting March 29 through April 1. With approval contingent on 75% of NFL owners in the 32-team league signing off on the plan. Regarding this situation, the Orlando Business Journal reported,

“Orange County has already committed millions in Tourist Development Tax dollars to bring the Jaguars to town, with projections showing the team’s season could generate significant hotel bookings and economic impact for the region.

NFL owners are about to vote on the plan for the Jacksonville Jaguars 2027 home season. Orlando is one of the possible host communities.”

Well, the vote went well and Orlando gets the nod. Furthermore, Tuesday afternoon Jaguars owner Shad Khan released the following statement:

“The Jaguars couldn’t ask for a better scenario than Orlando as our temporary home in 2027. This couldn’t have happened without the endorsement of the league and team owners who approved our plan two years ago for a renovated Stadium of the Future in Downtown Jacksonville, and we’re especially appreciative of the support of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the process. We’re also grateful to the team at Florida Citrus Sports that made this solution a reality that will benefit all, including Jaguars fans just a few hours away in Jacksonville. This is a win that everyone can celebrate.”

Now that the vote is over and the Jaguars plan is now in place. Where exactly will the organization play in 2027? Well, Camping World Stadium and Gainesville’s Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, home of the Florida Gators college football team, had been the frontrunners to host the team while Jacksonville’s EverBank Stadium undergoes a $1.4 billion renovation. In the end, the NFL owners unanimously voted March 31 during an annual spring meeting in Phoenix to approve the temporary relocation of the Jaguars to Orlando’s Camping World Stadium.

Interestingly, like the Jag’s EverBank Stadium; Camping World Stadium is undergoing its own $400 million upgrade. But not to worry, CWS will be ready in time for Jacksonville’s use. Camping World Stadium’s upgrading is only set to roll through the end of next summer.

Therefore, the stadium will be ready to host games during a season that takes place August 2027 through January 2028. This is according to Florida Citrus Sports, which hosted a watch-party celebration at City Hall in anticipation of the news.
