Just like several WNBA players today, we were happy to see cinema legend and stuntman treasure Jackie Chan out and about, supporting women’s basketball. Furthermore, the Rush Hour and Kung Fu Panda star also did not attend alone; he brought along a co-star to share in the festivities. Yes, Jackie Chan and Karate Kid Ben Wong was spotted at Barclays Center taking in the Valkyries Vs Liberty WNBA game.
On Thursday, GSV and New York got a big surprise court side for their matchup. Chan, 71, who stars in the Karate Kid: Legends which releases in theaters this week; was all smiles and he came bearing gifts. Jackie was spied taking pictures with fans and players such as the Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu. And he presented Golden State Valkyries head coach, Natalie Nakase, with two stuffed animals. Nakase is the first Asian American to hold the position of head coach in the WNBA. Plus, she had quite the résumé and credentials for the job; she previously served as an assistant coach with the Las Vegas Aces, where she helped the team win two championships.

Nevertheless, Chan and Wong got to take in quite the game as well. The Liberty and Valkyries second meetup of the week was highly contested. With lead changes and both sides remaining within 1-4 points of each other. By halftime, the Liberty had tied it up thanks to Kennedy Burke making both of her free throws with just around 20 seconds to go.
The third quarter would remain just as close. In fact, by the end of the third New York would only lead by one single point, 56-57. And the fourth quarter would be more of the same.
Several more lead changes and fouls later. The reigning champions would finally get a little breathing room. Narrowly escaping with the win in the final two minutes, 77-82. Therefore, congratulations to the Liberty on the exciting victory and we tip our hats to Ben Wong and Jackie Chan for coming out to Barclays.
