It’s Reunion Time In Cleveland As Joe Flacco Returns To The Browns

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding quarterback Deshaun Watson and his woes. He wants to get back to being the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. However, after the Brown’s owner called the trade for him a mistake that may not happen. So it’s onwards and upwards for the team and they have made a move. It’s reunion time in Cleveland as quarterback Joe Flacco returns to the Browns. He was formerly with the team in the 2023 season.

Despite the 18-year veteran being 40 years old this is still a good move for the team. When he was there in 2023 he helped get them to the playoffs. And he was definitely a crowd-pleaser with his deep ball accuracy creating exciting plays on the field. A spark was provided for the team that made them feel hopeful. However, the Browns chose not to bring Flacco back in 2024 and instead he signed with the Indianapolis Colts. While with the Colts he played in eight games and started six. He filled in while Anthony Richards had been benched by the team.

Now Flacco is returning to Cleveland on a one-year deal. According to Pro Football Talk the deal is $4 million minimum with a maximum of $13 million. But the $13 million is not likely to happen.

“Per a source with knowledge of the terms, Flacco will make $6 million if he’s the 2025 starter and if the Browns don’t make it to the postseason. If he’s the starter and the Browns do make it to the postseason, he’ll make $8 million.

To get to $13 million, certain unrealistic things need to happen. Including, most unrealistically, Flacco must be named the All-Pro quarterback.”

So it appears he is more likely to earn between $6 and $8 million on this second go-round.

The Browns have Kenny Pickett and Deshaun Watson on their roster and now Joe Flacco. Whether or not Watson will be able to play next season is unknown. But even if he does make it back it won’t be in time to play the full season. Therefore, the Browns will have to play Pickett or Flacco as the starting quarterback. Of course they can also select a quarterback in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft.

If they do take a quarterback they will have a great mentor in the Super Bowl winning Joe Flacco. With his 18 years of experience he can definitely groom a young pup fresh out of college. In any case having Flacco back on the team is likely to be a positive in general for the Browns. The team welcomed him back with a post on x.com (formerly Twitter) highlighting one of many good things he did in 2023. Welcome back to Cleveland Joe!
