When they said they wanted to expand the international market for the NFL the league wasn’t kidding. And Europe looks to be the hotbed of activity since an announcement was made yesterday. International NFL games are not slowing down as Paris is set to host a game in the 2026 season. As noted by NFL Communications, the National Football League will play its first-ever regular season game in Paris, France in 2026. It will take place at the Stade de France – the country’s national stadium. And the New Orleans Saints have been named as the home team.

Speaking about the event, Commissioner Roger Goodell said:

“Bringing a regular season game to Paris in 2026 marks an exciting next step in the continued expansion of the league’s global footprint,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “Paris is one of the world’s greatest sporting and cultural cities with tremendous success in hosting global events that unite fans on the biggest stages. Playing our first‑ever regular season game at the impressive Stade de France, together with the New Orleans Saints, underlines our continued global growth ambitions and we look forward to bringing the NFL to our passionate fans in France.”

Paris is one of the most popular European destinations that Americans love to visit. Doubtless, this game will attract plenty of American football fans as they soak up some of the Parisienne culture. And France is coming off hosting a very successful 2024 Summer Olympics, so they are well-equipped to host an NFL game.

Following the success and legacy of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, welcoming the NFL to the Stade de France demonstrates our ambition to open France to the world’s greatest sporting competitions, to embrace diverse sporting cultures and to strengthen France’s role as a leading host nation for major global events. This partnership also illustrates how sport serves as a tool of diplomacy, innovation and opportunity for our youth and our regions.

All 32 NFL teams participate in the program with rights across 21 markets. And the NFL has a growing presence in France with over 14 million fans. The full matchup including opponent, date and kickoff time will be announced when the 2026 NFL schedule is revealed this spring.

Continuing their European conquest, the National Football League will return to Madrid, Spain to play regular season games in 2026 in a multi-year partnership with the City of Madrid. Spain has about 11 million fans. Next season will have nine international games. Goodell said it will eventually have 16 international games a year so each team plays one.
