Injured Players Piling Up For Philadelphia Eagles
Injuries are unavoidable in the NFL, it’s just a question of how serious the injury is. And how long will it keep the player off the field. Sometimes it seems that some teams get hit harder than others. Much like their fellow NFC contender the San Francisco 49ers, the injured players are piling up for the Philadelphia Eagles. As it stands, wide receiver A.J. Brown has missed the past two games due to his hamstring injury. Tackle Lane Johnson and wide receiver DeVonta Smith both suffered concussions and are in the concussion protocol program. It’s too soon to know if either one will be able to play on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
To add to the devastating wide receiver news, Ari Meirov posted an update about Britain Covey:
“WR/PR Britain Covey told reporters he suffered a broken scapula and is expected to be sidelined for six weeks.” The Eagles have placed Covey on Injured Reserve.
This puts the Philadelphia Eagles wide receivers corps in a precarious position. However, Jahan Dotson is ready to step up. Dotson was selected by the Washington Commanders in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. However, he was traded to the Eagles in 2024. The wide receiver said that he’s “extremely comfortable” with the offense if he’s thrust into a larger role this week.
“I don’t know when my moment can be or will be, but making sure when I’m in that moment, I’m ready for it,” Dotson said.
And they also have their stalwart tight end Dallas Goedert who was just named the Toyota player of the week. In last week’s game against the New Orleans Saints, Goedert had 10 receptions and 170 receiving yards, a career high for him.

With all the wide receiver injuries, running back Saquon Barkley fully expects to receive more attention from the Tampa Bay defense on Sunday. That makes sense because he is currently the leading rusher in the NFL, so they will want to shut him down. Especially if Brown and Smith can’t get on the field. But Barkley is up for the challenge:
“Trust the game plan and trust your teammates and go out there and try to execute at a high level,” Barkley said.
In other injury news, cornerback Darius Slay missed the end of the Saint’s game after being blocked out of bounds well past the sideline. However, he was listed as a full participant on today’s injury report. Also, the NFL fined Khristian Boyd of the Saints, $4,600 for an illegal hit on DeVonta Smith who was concussed. Smith was listed as a non-participant on the injury report.
