Indianapolis Colts Planning to Bring Philip Rivers into Facility to Work Out

Seriously, what year is it? Do you feel like you have entered a Delorean with Marty riding passenger back to the Quarterback era? Well we are here to tell you that a blast from the past may indeed be back. The Indianapolis Colts are “planning to bring” Philip Rivers into their facility Tuesday to work out and see if he may join their practice squad.

Joe Flacco. Aaron Rodgers. Kirk Cousins. And now possibly Philip Rivers. This season has been very interesting. And we are here for it. The “era” all of these guys played in was beyond entertaining; and the fact that some of them can still compete is impressive.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport broke the news regarding Indianapolis and Rivers. Assuring football fans that his intel was not a rumor, not a joke, but a real story. Rapaport reports,

“The Colts are planning to bring potential Hall of Fame QB Philip Rivers into their facility Tuesday to work out to see if he may join their practice squad, per me and Mike Garafolo.

This is real. Daniel Jones’ season is over, Riley Leonard will start, but Rivers may be an option.”

Rivers is 44 years old and retired initially in 2021. Then in 2025 he signed a symbolic one-day deal with the Los Angeles Chargers to retire as a member of the team where he spent 16 seasons, solidifying his legacy. If you are wondering about his connection to the Colts; Rivers played 17 seasons in the NFL (mostly with the Chargers, one with the Colts). Rivers, who is a grandfather, last played for the Colts in the COVID season.

Since Indianapolis is now facing a quarterback crisis; it’s no wonder they are looking high and low to keep their season alive. While they may have some trust in Riley Leonard; it’s clear they would also like a veteran with experience around. Furthermore, the plot thickens with Leonard. Colts backup QB Riley Leonard is dealing with what a source described as a strained knee ligament that has him “week to week.” Therefore, the Colts are now uncertain whether he will be able to play Sunday at Seattle.

So then, as mentioned the Colts are in a bit of a QB pickle. With Daniel Jones out for the year (torn Achilles); and Riley Leonard week to week with a strained knee ligament, the Colts will work out QB Philip Rivers on Tuesday to see if he can be the piece to fit the puzzle. We shall soon see.
