Indianapolis Colts Announced Daniel Jones is Out For Remainder of Season With Torn Achilles

Indianapolis started the season off hot. Daniel Jones looked like renewed man leading the Colts to a 7-2 record. But since then it’s like the wheels have come off and everything is spinning out of control. The Indianapolis Colts announced that Daniel Jones is out for the remainder of the season with a torn achilles leaving the QB room in dire straits.

As the team looks to Week 15, the organization needs to find someone to hurl the ball. After the Colts lost Daniel Jones (Achilles), backup QB Riley Leonard suffered an injury Sunday vs. the Jaguars that leaves his status for Week 15 now up in the air. Not good.

Additionally, QB Anthony Richardson (eye), won’t be activated from IR this week. So Indy has a bit of a conundrum on their hands. Monday morning the Colts head coach had a lot of news to share and sadly none of it was positive. As confirmed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter,

“Colts HC Shane Steichen made the official announcement: QB Daniel Jones is out for the remainder of the season with a torn achilles. Colts QB Riley Leonard also is dealing with a knee injury that leaves his status for Sunday’s game at Seattle uncertain.”

Therefore, how are the Colts deciding to deal with this unfortunate situation? Well, you see they built a Time Machine. Kidding. However, they may achieve the next best thing.

With Daniel Jones out for the year and Riley Leonard week to week with a strained knee ligament, the Colts will work out QB Philip Rivers on Tuesday, as we earlier reported. Rivers this very week just turned 44 years old and last played in the NFL in 2020. Nonetheless, if all goes well Rivers might be coming out of retirement to help his old team out. Schefter added,

“While the Colts need to work out Philip Rivers to see what type of shape he is in, the former quarterback who is now a grandfather also needs to figure out whether he’s willing to play, per source. For now he’s clearly intrigued enough to fly to Indianapolis.”

Philip Rivers was recently named a Hall of Fame semifinalist for the Class of 2026. If he returns and signs with a team, his Hall of Fame clock would reset — meaning he’d have to wait another five years before becoming eligible again.
