Indiana Fever’s Fairy Tale Season Was Ended In Overtime By The Las Vegas Aces
They showed so much heart despite many of their players being injured. Including superstar Caitlin Clark. But they never quit and wouldn’t go quietly and let the mighty Aces have their way. No they forced the game to overtime and darn near made it to the Finals. But the newly appointed WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson and teammate Jackie Young turned in dominant performances. Thus the Indiana Fever’s fairy tale season was ended in overtime by the Las Vegas Aces.
It was a thrilling game that sent the Aces to the WNBA Finals for the fourth time in six years. They held on for the 107-98 overtime win against the Fever. But the Fever fought all game long as they had done throughout the playoffs. As demonstrated by Fever star Kelsey Mitchell who had to leave the court for extreme cramping in her lower body. The team confirmed today that she was transported to a local hospital late Tuesday night. But she is expected to make a full recovery.
While at the same time that Mitchell was leaving the court, center Aliyah Boston committed her fifth foul of the game in the third quarter. She received her sixth foul late late in the fourth quarter, with 26.4 seconds left in a tied game. So things were starting to look bleak for the Fever. But they still pressed on with six of their players hitting double digits on the night. Leading the point scorers was Odyssey Sims who had 27 points, Natasha Howard had 16 points, and Boston put up 11 points along with 16 rebounds.
It was Sims who sent the game into overtime when she hit a clutch layup that tied the game 86-86 with 22.5 remaining. Whereas the Aces failed to score on the final possession of regular time.

However, despite the Herculean efforts of the fever, it was Wilson and Young who delivered the daggers. They both sunk six free throws between them in the final 20 seconds to punch their ticket to the Finals. Speaking on the warrior mentality of her teammate, Chelsea Gray, Wilson told reporters post-game:
“It’s a blessing to play alongside Chelsea Gray. The way that I saw the look in her eyes after we lost in Indiana, I knew the Chelsea Gray that we were going to get this game. These are the moments, these are the experience she’s been through time after time after time, and she shows up.”
Now the Aces will go on to face the Phoenix Mercury who ousted the Minnesota Lynx. They will meet up on Friday October 3, for Game 1 of the WNBA Finals. Expect fireworks!
