Huge Fight Erupted as Former Teammates Jorge Soler and Reynaldo López Exchanged Blows
Who doesn’t love to see a good bench-clearing brawl. Sure, it may be immature, but we can’t help but to look at it and perhaps egg it on. Well, that kind of brawl broke out on Tuesday night at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, CA. A huge fight erupted as former teammates Jorge Soler and Reynaldo López exchanged blows. Soler was not happy with some of the pitches feeling that they were high and in and shortly thereafter a fight broke out. Both teams came running onto the field causing pandemonium with emotions flying high.
Soler was at bat and got into a staring match with Lopez before he decided to charge Lopez on the mound. The tension had been building since the first inning when Soler hit a homerun off of Lopez. Next came Soler getting hit by a pitch at his second at-bat with a 96mph fastball. But things boiled over in the fifth inning when López threw a high-and-inside wild pitch that narrowly missed Soler’s head. That’s when the mound charge came eventually followed by both benches clearing. Both players threw punches but few if any of them connected. Soler said that he asked López if everything was all right and didn’t like the response he got. Which is what prompted him to charge the mound.
Soler and López were teammates for a brief time in the second half of the 2024 season in Atlanta. But on this day both players were thrown out of the game. Jeimer Candelario replaced Soler and struck out against reliever Tyler Kinley, who took over for López.

Soler has a good track record against López with five homers and three doubles against his former teammate. So that could be a part of the reason why there was tension between the two men. And getting hit with 96mph fastball in the third inning didn’t exactly endear López to Soler despite having been teammates. Soler commented about that pitch saying:
“Obviously, I have good numbers against him,” Soler said. “After the home run and getting hit by a pitch after that, and then he missed way too high and close to my head. At this level, you can’t miss like that.”
But Lopez says he never had bad intentions against Soler stating: “It’s just a shame, the situation and how things unfolded,” López said through interpreter Franco García. “On my part, there was never any intent to hit him at any point. So, again, it’s just a shame.”
So, the new baseball season is off to a spicy start.
