How Much Do NFL Mascots Make?

We love watching NFL games both live and in-person. Why? Because they are exciting and entertaining. You know what else is entertaining? The team mascots! But exactly how much do NFL mascots make for entertaining the crowds? I mean, let’s face it, some of those furry, funny creatures are downright hilarious.

Before I answer the question it’s a good time to note that only 28 of the franchises have mascots. The Los Angeles Chargers, New York Jets, New York Giants, and Green Bay Packers do not have mascots. That kind of sucks for their fan bases but that doesn’t prevent them from watching the games anyway.

However, some of the team mascots have become famous. And even adored by the fans of other teams. Like Roary of the Detroit Lions. He’s a cool cat and loves spending Thanksgiving with the fans every year. That probably makes him one of the most recognizable mascots in the league. On the other hand you have Captain Fear of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That dude has the crazy eyes and loves firing canons. What’s not to like about that? Okay maybe a deranged pirate isn’t your thing but he’s still gets your attention.

But  whether you’re a fan of the mascots or not, those guys do work. Therefore, they should get paid. On average they make about $60,000 a year. As it stands the highest paid mascots are: Rowdy of the Dallas Cowboys and Pat Patriot of the New England Patriots. They each make $65,000 a year. The lowest salary for a mascot is about $50,000 a year.

So maybe you don’t want to quit your day job to become a mascot. However, being able to watch all the home games for free is a nice little perk. It just depends on what your priorities are I guess. But if you do decide to get into the game you might want to start with the NBA first. The Denver Nuggets mascot Rocky is thought to be the highest paid mascot in sports. He brings in a whopping $625,000.o0 per year! No wonder he was inducted to the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2006.

When the 2023 NFL season starts in September give a little cheer for the mascots. Because, in the words of disco queen, Donna Summer, “They work hard for the money!”
